Hey guys, I need a little help finding the parents of Mary Emily Allen (1872-1960, lived in Yancey, North Carolina, USA). The only indication of parents that I have are two people named John & Jane Allen in a marriage record for Mary and her husband.

Here's the marriage record:

Logan -- is she Dreyton (married name) or Deyton?
Deyton is the married name.
This doesn't help find her parents, but I added the 1940 census and notes for her and husband David to her profile.
Thank you anyways.
Did she remarry after David Deyton died? Her death record says her name was Deyton, her headstone says her name was Deyton, so unless there is another marriage to someone named Dreyton, her married name was Deyton, without the "r."
Ah it it without the "r", that's my bad, I'll fix it.

Hey, there are days I'm lucky to get anything correct on a profile. I make good use of the edit tab on a daily basis. cheeky

The marriage of John Allen and Jane Baxter occurs in Nov 1871 in Yancey County, which is perfect timing for the birth of Mary Emily in Oct 1872. I cannot find this couple in 1880. There is another couple in the 1880 census for Yancey County that has been confused with them but that woman was younger than Jane Baxter and still alive and well after Jane Baxter Allen died.

That John and Jane (Baxter) Allen cannot be found in 1880 and neither can Mary Emily Allen is an interesting coincidence and circumstantial evidence for a connection.

I also have to question Mary's birthplace. Most marriages would take place in the Bride's home county. That doesn't mean she was born in Yancey County, but it makes far more sense than birth in Graham County which is a considerable distance away. John Allen can be found with his second wife, Joanna, in the 1900 census in Madison County which is adjacent to Yancey.

You may want to try ordering a death certificate for Mary Deyton and hope it provides a maiden name for her mother.

I saw your comment about the birthplace, so I double checked my sources. According to a 1900 USFC, she was born in North Carolina (don't know which city) and resided in Caney River, Yancey County, North Carolina, USA, I then looked to see where I got the Graham County birthplace from, and the only records of Graham County was of her and her husband residing in Graham County in a 1920 USFC and I found where I got her birthplace from. It was from a single FindAGrave record. So give me about 3 seconds and I'll fix her birthplace to just North Carolina, USA.

I've found a few ancesty family trees with a lot of family photos & headstones
Mary E Allen - married to a David Columbus Deyton
Her parents are listed as Mary Jane Baxter b.1855 d 1892 and
John "Bull Tongue" Allen b. 3 feb 1853 d. 8 May 1922

I have seen those as options, but I couldn't find any sources to back up the claim.
In the 1880 census: John Allen and Mary J. Allen are in Yancey county, NC but Mary E. Allen is not listed as their child.  Also, Mary J. is only 21 years old, which would have made her 13 when having Mary E.  Not likely.
Those are a different John and Mary Jane. Her LNAB was Riddle. I think that Mary Emily's family was somehow skipped or was on an illegible page in 1880. I suspect that John Allen and Jane Baxter are, in fact, her parents.

So does it seem to be that John "Bull Tongue" Allen and Jane Baxter are the parents?
