Who do I alert re: "Ukrainian" mispelled in Drop-down menu?

+8 votes

Who do I alert to the misspelled name of a language in the drop-down menu?

In English, the correct spelling is "Ukrainian" with two letter "i" (before and after the first letter "n")!

Also, I noticed some "historically accurate" general placenames missing from the list. Will that be the same contact person?

Thank you!

Perhaps categorize this with WikiTree Tech - those who can fix things are usually watching that closely.
@JN Murphy Thanks, I saw that option after posting here. So that's for answering about that.!

L, unfortunately there is no one to alert about errors in the place name list.  WikiTree uses data provided by familysearch and it is wonderful to have that tool, but the bad part is that there have been many errors found in the data and there is nothing we can do about it, other than simply ignoring its suggestions when we know they are incorrect.

L is not referring to the locations drop-down menu, but to the language selection drop-down menu. Wouldn't that be under our tekkies power to correct?

You got me there, Lindy - I'm clueless as to where the language selection data comes from - my guess is that it's some translator (like maybe google's) applied to the familysearch data … which I assume is in English to begin with, but I could easily be wrong on that.

I don't know about the languages dropdown - it may come along with the location database from FamilySearch.

But - with a certain amount of patience - you can get corrections through at FamilySearch. There is https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/ and when you have done a search there is a link, Feedback.

Actually for their map there are language options in a dropdaown, and they have the correct spelling on Ukrainian, so the misspelling may be at the WikiTree end.
