Help: George Wishart SMITH

Hello, I am trying to find parents of George Wishart SMITH & anything about them whilst they were living in Scotland (if anything to find).

George was born in Scotland, UK in 1869 - my father says he was born in Ecclefechan, Scotland.

George died in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on 9th November 1960 & buried at Cornelian Bay, Tasmania.

He married Elizabeth Lindsay (1873-1941) and had 7 children

If there is anyone out there that could help, with anything however small - that would be wonderful.

My father has just done a DNA test but I am not sure it would pick up the SMITH DNA as it was his maternal grandfather?  Still trying to work out how to add this information into Wiki.  I am a novice at this if you haven't noticed already.

Thank you in advance for all of your time.

Aviation Corps, joined 7 January 1918. SRN T 7683.  Both parents had to sign as he was under age. Date of Discharge: 24 December 1918, Victoria.

Firstly, thank you to all of you for taking the time to research my question and respond.

Melanie, you are 100% correct David Douglas Smith is George's son - thank you for your help.

Deb, I have had a look at that entry on Family Search and I so want it to be right, but I have George's DOB as 1869 - but I can not for the life of me remember where that source was from, I think it was 2nd hand information from someone else who had done the research already....  It would make total sense that George's own father also had the middle name Wishart - it doesn't seem like a very common middle name to use.   I am at a loss on what I should do, I want to proceed with believing David Wishart Smith and Euphemia Lowe are his parents and then move on from there..

There are no other George Wishart Smiths on record anywhere - it is a very specific name.

Thank you again for all your help!
The Scottish register has the 1865 date .. as I posted above Deb's longer post.  There were no other entries.  So, no matter who it was who had the 1869 date, you have to consider that they were incorrect.

If I had enough credits left, I'd take a look for you, but I'm down to 4 credits and it costs 6.  (I have bills to pay for the month before I can even think of buying more credits this month.  I've already bought $40 or $50 worth .. and spent them all bar the 4 remaining.)

I think you would be safe enough going with David Wishart Smith and Euphemia Lowe as is parents.  If it turns out at some future time that we are all of us incorrect, it's an easy fix. :)
This might sound silly Melanie, but when you refer to credits - what do you mean?  Still learning the ropes here :)

I agree, there was only the one entry for him in that period so wherever I obtained the original date must have been incorrect - I am happy to accept this as it means I can move forward with my research :)

Thank you again for your time, you have all be amazing

Credits on Scotland's People means I have paid real world money (via credit or debit card) in order to access the actual image of the register entry.  I've kind of over spent my (personally allotted) allowance this month getting images for my 3Xgreat grandfather's family (and one lookup for a profile I manage to PROVE findagrave is incorrect; plus one I looked up for someone asking a question on G2G).

It adds up as each "look" costs 6 credits (but once paid, you can go back to that image again and again for the one-time cost).

The credits come in "packages" of 30 credits (£7.50), 40 credits (£10), 80 credits (£20), 160 credits (£40) .. you'll need to do your own currency conversion, but the £7.50 package costs around $US10 (or did last month).

SOME views are cheaper .. but not the births, marriages and deaths .. or, I think, census (haven't bought one of those as I use freecen) for my Scottish census needs.

ETA: I'm down to 4 credits until after I pay my bills for the month.

@ Wayne .. only one George Wishart Smith .. that David Douglas is the son (already mentioned up the thread a way).

Anna .. if you didn't see the email notification .. I sent you a private message.
I don't know if this will help but I will say I did find some kind of Will or something in some papers that I found online at :

https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov.      The Bedford Gazette, April 25, 1862  Image 3

I did find several George Wishart Smith but different births but however I don't believe that George is buried in United States.
@Nancy, thank you for your contribution - A few different George Wishart Smith's have popped up in USA however, my George did die in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia & I have now, thankfully, confirmed his Date of Birth and birth place thanks to the lovely @melanie!!

Not a problem.  I was happy to help.  smiley

Hello, I am sure you dont remember this thread however I wanted to update you on what I have found on George Wishart Smith..

Sadly, David Wishart Smith and Euphemia Low are not his parents, they are in fact David Smith and Catherine Wishart.
I can only confidently say this now as I have located George's marriage certificate and it states his parents names
https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/102088857
I am back 100 steps here, as now I can not find his birth details in Annan Scotland or surrounds with either parent name.
