How do I add people to my One Place Study Project?

When I originally set up my One Place Study, I was  using {{One Place Study | Pittsyvlania}}  as my heading, but since then the One Place Study Project emerged and Liz moved my OPS project to Pittsylvania, Virginia with subcategories of Pittsylvania, Virginia Colony and Pittsylvania, Virginia. There is now a ONS project button on the editing page and the categorization requires double brackets.  I tried working within the new parameters, but the project category was not captured on the profile.  What am I doing incorrectly?

Try using the full template parameters:

{{One Place Study
|place = Pittsylvania, Virginia
|category = <category name if used> (e.g., Pittsylvania, Virginia)
}}

When using the category parameter, this will place all profiles in that category.

I noticed your question states One Name Study, and your text states One Place Study. So I will cover both:

{{One Name Study
|name=<surname>
|category=<category name> if you want it to be in a specific ONS category
}}

I meant to say One Place Study.
