Alfred Ernest Hopkins - any details? Born in England, married & lived in New Zealand. Went missing?

Hi, I am trying to obtain details of my great grandfather, Alfred Ernest Hopkins and any details relating to his parents and any siblings he may have had. All I know is that he was born in either 1887 or 1888 in Portsmouth, England. Somehow he ended up in New Zealand and married Stella Isabel Potter in 1923 in Auckland. At the time of marriage he was 36 and I believe at this time he was a driller. They had one son together, my Grandfather Neville Treyton Hopkins who was born in 1924. Alfred then 'went missing' in 1931 (supposedly in the Napier Hastings earthquake but his death has never been verified and was not specified as a missing person at the time). Given he was 36 when he married my great grandmother, it os conceivable that he perhaps has other children? I have no details of his parents and have not come across a birth certificate for him. I would LOVE to hear from anyone who thinks they may have any information. Thanks.

Have searched various records without luck however the marriage is on the NZ Historical BDM site so I suggest you purchase  the marriage cert online. It should show the parents names, fathers occupation and mothers maiden name along with the usual you would expext. Chose the one costing NZD 20.40. If you supply your email address they will email it to you.

Did you ever find the information you wanted. Is it possible Alfred went back to England ? I see there was a Alfred Ernest Hopkins died in Gloucester in 1971 says he was born in 1889. There seems to be no information on him in NZ after his marriage. His wife Stella died in Rotorua 17th May 1976 aged 87.
