Oh, Yay!
Do you know if they ever did the 1821, 1831 for Counties Sligo, Kerry, Clare or Cork ?
Hi Maggie you probably know this already but - Full government censuses for the whole island of Ireland began in 1821 and continued at ten-year intervals until 1911. The majority of the returns for the four censuses carried out between 1821 and 1851 were destroyed by a major fire at the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922.

I understand these extracts are taken from records held re pension applications made early 1900 ( i.e.before the fire.)    I don't know if more records are being released or if this is it.  If I find out anything else I'll post it here and on the Irish Roots project google group.    Maria

Thanks! I have been using these now:). The 1841 Census form can be very confusing, but there are expanatory notes. What the Irish government did was include lines for entering names of deceased family members who had lived with the family during the past ten years (since June 1, 1832), and had died. Names,  relationshp to head of household, date of death and even disease died from are included - if you can read the handwriting!

One man, Denis Nail, age 61 died in 1831 and was included, so he must have been born in 1760.

But not many fragments have survived. We can however, check these against the Tithe Applotments and Griffith's Valuations to try to tie families together.
