Hi Laura. I see he is in WikiTree. It makes it easier to find the person if you can paste the URL for the profile in the box for it under the Question box.
I see your current info comes from My Heritage. Was any of that documented? Do you have any educated guesses on what county or district he died in? I see you have the wife passed away in Union County. Was that documented?
I see a few potentials but each was eliminated either by date of death or the children listed.
Given that this is a common name and there isn't yet much documented by which to research, my suggestion would be to move 'downstream' to Robert or whichever of Robert's offspring is your line and do solid and thorough sourcing on that person first.
My Heritage site and Family Search trees are not solid sources of information because they are user submitted and frequently full of errors. That's why I suggest go downstream to the point you can find rock solid primary source documentation of birth, marriage and death with dates and locations. Then work backward from that fully sourced person. This will avoid the trap of falling into someone else's not so good genealogy "research" and then creating an inaccurate tree.
