Hi,

It would help to know who you are trying to search.  Are the profiles on WikiTree?

If so, you could click on the ROOTSEARCH in the right column of the profile page then search FamilySearch for records for NY and NJ for those profiles.

FamilySearch.org is free although you do have to sign up for a free account.

The records held there are good sources for birth, marriage, death and census among others.

It might help if you started adding family and sources for them, you’d be surprised who you come across whilst searching!

The New Jersey Archives has the actual vital records for New Jersey up to 1915. So if you find the birth/marriage/death you're looking for in the indexes available online, you can get a copy of the record from them. Their cheaper than the more recent records are, too! And in my experience they're pretty quick.  (And of course if you're near Trenton, you can visit them  and make copies yourself.)

For more information, see here
