Search for the small details, and be inspired (no question)

Came across a third cousin four times removed.  Am really taken by him and thought I'd encourage fellow Wikitreers to search for the small detail with your profiles.  Be inspired by the actions and sacrifices of your family members.  Grafton (named after the city of Grafton, New South Wales, near where he was born and then lived) Roy Small was a descendant of Australian convicts; two from the First Fleet, another from the Second Fleet and more from after the Third Fleet.  His family, albeit pioneer settlers, were timber cutters and farmers.  Yet, Grafton, when just 14 years old, snuck into the Australian Imperial Force and fought on the Western Front.  He was awarded the Military Medal and returned home; a combat veteran at 19 years of age.  I want to find out more of this distant family member.  May I encourage you to be inspired by your family members who may not have been community leaders, notables or famous?

Everybody counts, or nobody counts.  Thanks for sharing Grafton's story.
True that, Herbert!
Thank you for recognising one of what I like to term everyday heroes" .. and you are right, every little detail matters.  We can't know what were are missing if we don't delve into every nook and cranny.

Watch how many women died during or shortly after giving birth. You will develop a new appreciation for Motherhood.

Don't forget those who had 12 babies in 12 years (or whatever number).

I cannot imagine being pregnant that many times so close together (or that many times .. why, that's a cricket team!).
I just finished reading an article about a new movie … about Queen Anne of England, who had 18 pregnancies of which only 1 child survived and he died at age 11.  That's more extreme than anything I've ever heard of before.
We recognise these incredible women, Merriam, with [[Category: Maternal Mortality]].  My own mother was within ten minutes of being included in the category with a younger sibling.  There is now also [[Category: War Widows]] to recognise the direct effect war has.

surprise

There is?!  Why wasn't I told?!

.

(I created my own sticker for war widows (admittedly, I haven't actually USED it yet .. just the one I did for War Brides), because I couldn't find a category or a sticker.)
Now all we need is one for the WAAAF, who were not RAAF.

Done, Melanie.  There now exists [[Category: Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force]] (1941 to 1947 during the Second World War) and [[Category: Women's Royal Australian Air Force]] (from 1950 onwards) as well as [[Category: Women's Air Training Corps]] (voluntary service during the Second World War).
Melanie, use the sub-category [[Category: War Widows, Australia]].
Thank you, Kenneth.  My Mother would thank you as well, if she were alive to do so.  (She always had a rant and rave session any time she was referred to as a member of the RAAF .. and that included defacing a commemorative certificate sent to her that said she had been RAAF during WWII; and that she had been "Paul" back then when she had not.  She sent it back so "corrected" and they re-issued it.  Feisty was my Mum.)

.

Ahh .. yes, I shall, when I get to the War Widows I have on my list of "profiles I have yet to create".  Thanks for that, as well.  :)
