I have photos of my dad and his younger brother when they were on their Comstock (Custer County, Nebraska) High School football team, but when I click on the photo icon above, it asks for a URL. The photos are on a CD. How do download them here? Also, my eldest brother, Daniel Melvin Roth, held the record for the 440 yard dash in high school (Ellet H.S. Akron, Ohio) and I managed to run it in .6 under his record.

Noone in my family has any photos of anyone doing any athletics or  sports.

BUT we do do a fair amount of walking and hiking. So this photo is of ME in January 1991 (aged 27) at the end of a 4 day, 33 mile Hike in the Fiordland country of the South Island in New Zealand. This was the Milford track which is one of the most famous walking tracks in NZ. My family and I walked the track independently - carrying all our bedding (Sleeping bags), our clothes and food on our backs.

The rich lazy people could do it the much more expensive way - which means they walked from hut to hut every day carrying nothing more than food for the day, while the porters (staff) ferried their luggage from hut to hut. Also their huts were far more comfortable than the independent huts. Rumour says they may have had running water showers.

Sadly no athletes in my family besides my dog Grace.  Here is an action shot of her, she is an amazing athlete.  Does fishing count?  Here is a pic of me and my family with a day's catch of "Rock Fish" (aka Striped Bass) from a trip out on the Chesapeake Bay.  Reeling in one of these Rocks will have your biceps bursting into flames. "Fishing" is to "athletic" like "Golf" is to "sport?.  Works for me. ;)

No one in my family is much into "sports", with the exception of my brother and a cousin, who are both alive to protest having their photos plastered all over the internet. However, my mother's family hiked and camped.

Above is a photo of the family's camp at Big Bear, in the San Bernadino Mountains east of Los Angeles, CA, in 1916.

Above is a faded photo of the extended family camping at Yosemite in 1917. The photo is too faded for me to see who is who, but it looks to me like they were camping with my grandfather's brother George's family.

And here is a photo of some moron (not my grandfather, who would have been taking the picture) feeding a young wild bear cub at Yosemite. Lucky he didn't get his hand bitten off.

I love these photos, especially the camping gear. My husband and I tent camped for years. Recently, with age, we have progressed to a tent trailer, but still love camping.

I agree. I try my best not to feed bears, and have chased them off on several occasions. One just broke one of my apple trees in half. Broke off the half on which I had grafted 3 red-fleshed and pink-fleshed varieties. I'm rather heartbroken about it. Will attempt to repair the tree.

This photo is of Leroy Samse who is my husband's great-uncle.  He attended Indiana University and was a member of the 1904 U. S. Olympics Pole Vaulting team, winning the Silver Medal.  At one time he held the pole vaulting world record.  He competed with non-bending poles and, as you can see in the photo, landed in the dirt rather than a nice soft foam pad.

52 Photos Week 5 Athletic

I thought this was a great picture to share with you for athletics week. It was the 1959 World Series, and my neighbor, Marilyn Halpin and her family were in attendance. I hope that you are able to see the numbers I have placed on the people.

Her father, Henry Halpin caught the ball. A motor-oil executive, Melvin Piehl was sitting in the front row, and had placed his beer on the wall. He bent down to get a sandwich when he heard the crack of the bat, and his beer spilled over and hit the bill of Al Smith's (White Sox player)  cap and went down the side of his face.

It was in his nose and everywhere. At first Al thought it was on purpose, until the umpire told him otherwise.

The Halpin family ended up with the ball.

I am so glad that you enjoyed this picture. Marilyn had a great time telling me about me and we all laughed and laughed. I guess Al Smith (the ball player) was very upset at first when he thought it was on purpose. Melvin (the man with the beer) refused tv interviews. He was embarrassed over the incident.

Linda and Ray racing on the Oklahoma River I have been rowing on the Oklahoma River for the past 10 years.  Just completed 8 million meters of rowing.  The average age in our men's quad is 66 and we won first place in the regatta last fall.

My Grandmother Pauline Ford Boy with two of her friends on the bicycles and wagon in Piney Flats, Tennessee. Her friend Collene ended up being related by marriage as her stepfather was my Grandfather Boy's first cousin.

Although I'm not participating in the challenge, I could not resist sharing this team picture of the 1971-1972 State University of New York at Albany Women's Basketball team. I am number 45, and still have my Converse All Star sneakers and purple and gold striped socks.

My dad in the early 1950's.  He wrestled in Canada for a few years under the name Billy McKoy (his birth name was Douglas Eric Price)

My maternal uncle in the 1950's.  He wrestled professionally in the United States under the name of Jerry London until his death in 1970.  Jerry's birth name was Murray Gerald Aitken.

I don't know how to get this any different.  Originally, I just highlighted the picture and copy/pasted.  You can then see I tried the programming code that was suggested on the picture itself but that did not do anything.  It is hard for me to tell as everything looks good on my side.  I get the full picture but it was always that way so I thought it was fine.

I never met my grandfather, so it's very exciting for me to discover things that make me feel as if I know him better! I think I found him in this photo of the students' Athletic Association in a souvenir book of the of the school he attended, Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan. Comparing this to other photos of him, I think he is in the one wearing the dark knit cap and sweater. It looks like each student or group of students is representing a different sport. Can you identify any of them? Is my grandfather representing cross-country skiing? (I hope those are poles and not guns!) #52photos  #wikitree

Like many others, I don't have any ancestors in athletic poses. However my husband's great great aunts in this photo apparently did not just get off the tennis court. Imagine playing any sport dressed in those outfits!

This photo, taken in 1881 shows Fenella, Lucy and Frances Girdlestone, none of whom ever married.

Here is a picture of my grandfather, his mother, and his stepfather-my grandpa had just made the varsity baseball team.  He loved playing baseball and continued to play up until his early thirties.  I have a few great pictures taken of him and his fellow airmen during WWII-whenever there was a free moment, if they weren't playing cards or trying to find their way around European cities (he always said he was a Miami kid who found himself in old cities across the ocean)-they loved to play baseball.  I didn't post those because I am uncertain if the other people in the picture are still alive (or even what their names are) and what the WikiTree policy is in that situation.

 In my mother side of the family her sister and brother that is dead now played basketball in High School. Now my mother sister that is dead had children and now grandchildren that played various sports. Basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and baseball and also one was on a High School swimming team and she enjoyed that and had fun doing that. This is three of the grandchildren's teams: Baseball, volleyball and I really don't know the other sport but it looks like soccer or softball.

My great grandfather, William Griffith, was the manager of the Manchester, Vermont baseball club in 1931. He's all the way on the left in the back row.
