I have photos of my dad and his younger brother when they were on their Comstock (Custer County, Nebraska) High School football team, but when I click on the photo icon above, it asks for a URL. The photos are on a CD. How do download them here? Also, my eldest brother, Daniel Melvin Roth, held the record for the 440 yard dash in high school (Ellet H.S. Akron, Ohio) and I managed to run it in .6 under his record.

You might have to down load the photo from the CD to your computer--not sure on that.

Next, go to the green link above that says  this week's free-space gallery.

On the right hand side of the page, above the photos, it says "Upload new image"

You will get a browse button, where you can browse your files and find the photo to add. There's other stuff on there you have to fill out, too.

When you get the photo added to the page, then you copy the photo, and go back to this page, and add it here, along with your description of what's going on in it.

This is a photo of the Miami High School Vandals Baseball Team, Miami, Gila, Arizona, United States, in 1949. My dad, Charles Freeman "Chuck" Lewis, is in the back row, 3rd from the left.

Athletics, with a few exceptions, is primarily a modern phonomena.  Here's my take on athletics.  Work with a couple of Missouri mules every day and see what kind of muscles that builds!

Great photo, Randall! I think the Greeks, Romans, Mayans, Incas, Egyptians and numerous others might take exception to your statement that athletics is primarily a modern phenomenon, though.

I love this photo! And I agree, he probably was just as strong as any athlete and accomplishing more at the same time.

My great-grandfather, Orlan Wells, played on his high school's football team in Chariton, Iowa in 1913.

Apparently, his nickname was "Shakespeare."

Just me in Morocco hitting the ball with a Danish friend who I met poolside.  When we discovered that we both played tennis the challenge was on!

My grandmother used to swim the rivers near Pittsburgh, but no photos. My grandfather played rugby for Eton, but no photos. So the best I could up with was a photo of the women of the family teaching the littlest one to swim. This features my Aunt Marie, my mother Arlene Flamer, and myself teaching Jennifer, my daughter to swim just a few weeks short of her first birthday. We figured that if she could walk, she could learn to swim. And she not only learned, she loved it.

I was finally able to play on the same hockey as my son, he is the goalie. It was so much fun, after being the supportive parent and coach for over 14 years finally getting the chance to play with him was great.

This was a tough week for 52_Ancestors and 52_Photos.

I could only come up with my paternal grandfather always talking about being a boxer when he was younger growing up in Little Italy, Philadelphia. I've looked but no pictures. His nick name was "Tanker" which meant motor mouth. He always had a story for everything.

I know my father played football in high school and in college. I started at the same high school and I used to where his varsity sweater. Now I have no idea where the sweater is at.

I never really thought about it but my father's side of the family barely has any photos and my mother's side is the opposite and have lots of photos. As I'm sharing this I just remembered maybe my one aunt can find a picture of my uncle who was in gymnastics at Penn State University.

The picture I'm using is my grade school girls basketball team. I'll date myself when I ask how many remember when womens basketball played six against six in a game vs the men 5 against 5. And not only did we have six, there would be two forwards who could not pass mid court and two guards that could not pass mid court. Only the two rovers could cross mid court. So although there were six on the floor it was really like 4 against 4.

Little bit of a stretch, but hopefully "snowballing" counts.  This was an early September snowstorm in Morton County, North Dakota, 1903 (or possibly 1902). Inez (Wickham-939), Helen (Lidstrom-17), and Mabel (need to determine who she is)

Snowballing may not be a recognized Winter Olympic sport, but I'd guess a lot of those athletes got plenty of exercise doing the same thing..

I am EXCITED about this category! My paternal grandfather Gerald Howard "Bud" TAYLOR was the Basketball Manager/Coach for the Ohio Navy Reserve Basketball Team in 1936-1940. He was very successful in winning games, and kept articles, in order, in his Navy Reserve Book.

Here is another article about my grandfather when he coached basketball. It was so cool to find these, when I opened my cedar chest, with my husband's help, in 2007, and found everything I had inherited from my Taylor family!

It must have taken some athletic ability for my great great great uncle Albert Warden to climb to that location, especially in a suit and with the photographic equipment of the time period.

My father, Carl William Robinson Sr, loved basketball! Which is where I learned to love it! (I'm in the second picture, bottom row, last in the row (the redhead!))

The father played hockey in 1965 at age 12. His son played in 1993 at age 8 in a different town in a different league.
