New gedcom imports created as orphaned profiles ? [closed]

Just came across some fresh gedcom imports, which seem to have been created as orphaned profiles - is this normal / acceptable? Or does the system allocate the importer as the profile manager at some later stage of the import process?

Thanks for that explanation, I had looked at the changes, and saw none since creation. I also saw that the importer / non profile manager is a prolific contributor - I guess there will be no stopping the user trees merely being replicated and abandoned on W/T -  not particularly encouraging !
I wish there was something to click just to say I agree with your comment--I agree. But perhaps this person will come back and clean up all these profiles he or she imported by Gedcom and convert them into beautifully written and wonderfully sources profiles. We can always hope.
When I create a new branch of a particular surname, I profile, source, tidy up any holes in references till I have no more info and then orphan the branch.  I know there are active researchers interested in "x" surname and if I have them all tied up as PM they'll look at Wikitree and think 'well, that's taken care of' and leave.  Maybe they'll be too polite to add sources or photos or a sibling I didn't know about. These profles aren't my relatives; I'm just interested in a certain era of immigration. For Wikitree health it seems preferable to set them free in little related groups than dump all my profiles when I become 'inactive'.

Orphaning a profile does not show in the change history, but looking at the change feed, you can see who originally created (and subsequently orphaned) the profile.

Richard and Nelda, please see  The Free Family Tree

I have added more than a few thousand Profiles of persons who have no direct relationship to me. Am I wrong in doing so? Not according to the implied declaration on the page mentioned above as I am attempting to grow our One Global Family Tree. Now I don't go out and grab a cemetery on Find A Grave and start adding Profiles from that list nor take some esoteric 'Family History' book and pull names out of that.  The folks I add are mostly people like the niece of the wife of the brother-in-law of my 2nd cousin twice removed.  People who are indirectly related.

And I do agree they should be cleaned after importing and the sources be clear. And thanks Richard, for adding a more precise source to Maude.  That being said, are the sources originally added when Maude was created not permitted under WikiTree Guidelines? No, they are acceptable.  Are they clear and concise sources. No there as well.  While the goal is to have every source cited to be easily checked and verifiable, the use of basic information is still permitted.  Even "By Personal Recollection/Knowledge of Name" is permissible.Though I consider these more of hints, than sources.

When I first joined WikiTree I was not as versed in how to present sources as well as they should be. I am now going through the Profiles on my Watch List and updating all sources to Family Search where such records are available as that seems to be the agreed up site for ease of use by all WikiTree members.  And of course I am orphaning all those who are not directly related to me.  Am I still connected to them, yes.  Orphaning a Profile does not unlink me from their tree no matter how tenuous that link may be.  I also add this to all of the Profiles I Orphan to possibly help those who come after me.

==Profile Note==

:This Profile was originally created from my Ancestry Family Tree and was added to WikiTree in hopes that in the future, a relative will claim this Profile. This person is related to me through marriage only and unfortunately, I have to Orphan this Profile to make room on my Watch List. Any questions, please contact me. [[Russell-13872|LJ Russell]]. When Adopted, please delete this note.

As an Open site, everyone one has different reasons for adding to WikiTree.  Is there one absolutely correct way to add Profiles and their contents to WikiTree, fortunately not.  Are there many ways to do so and still apply to WikiTree Policy on Styles and Standards, gratefully yes.  Opinions are pretty much like eyes on WikiTree, it seems everyone has two.  LOL
