Jan Mercier-501 vs Jean Mercer-350 are same person married to Jeanne Leclercq-2

None of these profiles had managers before I had to add them to my family tree.  Can you help me with which is the right way to go name wise upwards from here.  They end up in Flanders, Belgium so I feel inclined to go with Jan but I can't find much in the way of supporting documentation.  Thanks, DD

Go with the name that is most likely after comparing the profiles,  then add the other name as a nickname, untill you have proof of one or the other. That is my solution, unless one name is a citation direct from a parent,  such as a birth cert or bible entry, then no matter how many other citations I have I use the secondary cites as aka s.

Wikitree policy is to use the last name at birth.

if you have no documentation of their birth or christening, then use the spelling the person used most during their lifetime-- again as it appears in documentation contemporary to the time period.
