Why cannot I change privacy settings

I want to make my deceased father's biography and memories PUBLIC but it won't let me.  If those stories are not available to the general public, I will have to go back to rootsweb and tribal pages and ancestry to post my information.

I cant see who your father is as your own profile is Private. If he has no death date and was born in the last 100 years the privacy options are restricted. Nevertheless, you can use the "Yellow" level which does not restrict the info in the Biography level.

Of course, you also have to be logged in to do any editing at all.

If you are not on the Trusted List, you may have to ask to be placed on the Trusted List for editing.

I have run into this problem with some of my ancestors.  You just need to edit the profile to add a date of death.  If you don't know it exactly, you can mark it as about/uncertain.  After you save it with the death date, you'll be able to make it public.

EDIT: Forgot to mention; this will work without a date, too.  Just choose about/uncertain and save your changes.
