heres compare-

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DuBois_dit_L%27Hirondelle-1

as you can see I'm planning on merging into 2 because #1  was actually created 2 years later, and has name in different last name setup, but according to only doc so far the name written on marrg rec shows Rondel-Dubois, & since 'dit" and or "-" can't be in names I've removed from Dubois Rondel 2.  One is listed as "L'Hirondelle  which for ppl of these lines knows who this is, because of books that contain the name, can't remember if i've seen in  it in any old records.

problems- the 2 Jacques 1 and 2 are connected as brothers to the right parents, when in fact they are the same person. So do i just merge the 2, and will this then clear the 2 brothers issue? and by merging them does it solve the issues?, since both are connected to the same parents (so no duplicates of them that i kno of )

Yes, when you move the two records, they will become one, so there will only be one person connected to the parents.  They will be ‘losing’ a brother but it will then be correct.  Lol

Merge should always be done to the lower number.  When you are doing the merge, you can change anything, other than the last name at birth.  When you have completed the merge, you can change the last name at birth, if needed, as long as your were a PM on one of the records.

If 2 records are merged that had different PM, all PM will be associated to the new merged record.

Make sure to edit the biography during or after the merge to clean it up since all the bio text will be copied from both into the merged record, frequently duplicating information.

Hope this helps.

thank you for the answers, we did it yesterday, idunno was like i had brain fog yesterday on merging, probably because i'd wasn't used to seeing a merge needed where the parents were actually connected so the 2 duplicates were right there on the same page.  But got it figured out. (have done quite a few merges over the years, i was in a fog on this one. lol)  thank you for the answers!
