Can I import the Gedcom (mostly matches) so that I can have the citations added?

So I added a few generations by hand before I tried a GEDCOM.  Now I want to upload the Gedcom with citiations, and it wants me to not duplicate so many.  But  it seems more efficient to add this way and then merge?  Advice, please.

Carla:

That is one way; the tree has pretty good functions for finding matches and doing merges. But I would suggest you ask one of our resident Gedcom experts- Eowyn Langholf. You can write her at Eowyn@wikitree.com. She might be able to suggest a more efficient way to do this task.
