Yes, there is proof that a Francis Bryan and William Bryan and a William Smith all tried to reclaim lands in Clare as part of the Act of Settlement 1670. 'Irish Landed Gentry' no author given, Chapter 10, The "Forty Nine" Officers in Ireland, page 377 shows six Bryans namely: Abigall Bryan, Francis Bryan, Humphry Bryan, John Bryan, Patrick Bryan and William Bryan. These were claims for payments to Officers who served Charles I or Charles II in Irish Wars before ( including resistance to Cromwell) and which was often paid in land grants. It appears that these 'adjudications' were in favour of the claimants though that does not mean they were honoured and in the case of the Bryans they might have been offered land in Connaught which was very unsatisfactory.
