Linking to a WikiTree surname index page

0 votes

What is the best way to place a link to a wiki tree surname search.  I'm trying to put something in like this.

Click here to see if there are other Dandridges on Wikitree.

do I need to indicate the entire url? and can I pipe it to a name?

Enter two [, then the link space pipe space here and two more]

[[ | here]]

This should work.

Just seems curious to me that I can link to any wikipedia site without even knowing the profile with [[wikipedia:geroge washington|]] and it will find the page and replace the text but that feature of a wiki shortcut doesn't exist internally to wiki tree.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hi Tom and Ed,

The link should be single brackets like this:

[ | here]

I know that seems curious. There's no good logic to it. We used Wikipedia's Mediawiki as a starting point for WikiTree but have massively changed it. Some of our changes aren't fully integrated with the original logic of the software. The internal linking system is native to Mediawiki. The surname pages are not.

Thanks, Chris, I wasn't aware of that. (obviously)
