The Otsego Farmer February 18, 1938
William J Stocking, born September 8, 1861, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Clark, at Springfield Center Tuesday, February 15th at 4:20 am.
Mr. Stocking was the son of M.D. Stocking and Elizabeth Myers Stocking. Mrs. Stocking, who was Ida Ostrander, passed away twelve years ago at the home which Mr. Stocking purchased after leaving the farm and now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sloan. In a years time his daughter, Lillian, who was his housekeeper, died after a very short illness.
Mr. Stocking had not been well for several years and this week the trouble seemed to be quinsy which broke inside, causing other complications. He has always been well cared for during his many illnesses by Mr. and Mrs. Clark. Mr. Stocking leaves two sons, Stanly and Leslie Stocking, and Mrs. Clark all of this town. Two sisters Mrs. Fannie Brazee of Oneonta and Mrs. Emma Hecox of this village and a brother Charles Stocking; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Thursday at 2 o'clock pm from the home of Mrs. Clark and the burial was in Springfield Cemetery. The Rev. George H. Carpenter and the Rev. Daniel S. Wood had charge of the service.
