Why are there discrepancies in the Profile Manager Lists

This isn't much of a problem but perhaps it should be fixed.

If I go to Find>People: Search and search for a surname ("Wedgwood"), I am presented with a page ("Wedgwood Genealogy") which lists all Wedgwoods and their Managers.

*Some names have no manager listed and these seem to be orphans ("Sowdley Wedgwood-60").

*Some list the profile name as the manager but are orphans ("Thomas Wedgwood-14").

*Others also list the profile name as manager but are not orphans ("Richard Wedgwood-17").

As I said: not much of a problem but perhaps it should be fixed.

What you may be seeing is lag in the system update, mostly reindexing occors once a day and some profiles can have the wrong information if the were just orphaned or just adopted. Additionally many people adopt profiles for a short time to correct LNAB's for example then orphan them again. If problems persist more than 24 hours then it may well be a problem, otherwise it is just a limitation.

No, I don't think it's just a limitation. The same person has been Profile Manager of Wedgwood-17 for over a month and the Wedgwood Genealogy page has not updated.

Does it make a difference how a profile is adopted (Orphaned Profiles page vs. clicking "adopt this profile" on an orphan's page)? Sometimes the Change log says: "X added X as manager for profile of John Wedgewood" and at other times it says "X adopted the profile of Richard Wedgwood". Why the difference?

The difference in messages may be due to someone who is on the TL upgrading to manager and someone who is not on the TL adopting.

Your other points and the post you found indicate a problem still with bulk changes, I will pass it on to the code monkeys.
I wish we had code monkeys!

Somehow a large number of passive profiles became listed as their own managers, but only in the manager reference field (something we use to make various displays and indexes faster). We will update them and try to establish how it happened.

Chris,

Here's some more grist for the mill (no comment needed):

On the Wedgwood Genealogy page, Janice Hardin is listed as the profile Manager for several profiles. Clicking her name takes you to her profile (Christensen-519) with a Notice that she is no longer an active member. Her profile is now managed by Ed Burke-1008.

* Hensleigh Wedgwood (-88) lists her as Manager on 'Wedgwood Genealogy', but the profile itself say it's an orphan. Why is she still listed as manager? (see http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/53497/wikitree-profile-manager-happens-profiles-individual-managed)?

*Elizabeth Wedgwood (Allen-5441) also lists her as Manager but the profile itself says Ed Burke is the Manager. However the Change log has no record of his adopting it.

Last year I was added as manager on a large number of her profiles.. Even though I manage the profiles Janice still shows as the manager in the listing. The actual profile itself shows the correct manager.

If a sys/op assigned her profiles to Ed (which I believe is the case in this instance). then there won't be any indication of this changes log.
Hi Michelle and R.

There are definitely a large number of profiles with incorrect managers in our reference field. We're going to repair these legacy problems. Then, when that is done, we will keep a close eye on whether it happens again. For this we could really use your help watching for problems.

Thanks,

Chris
Chris,

I have lot of of Janice's profiles so we should be able to tell quickly after the repair. Will keep an eye out. Will you post when the repair is completed?
On another note,  Code monkey is a derogatory term for programmers who can only perform trivial or repetitive tasks. Programmers or web designers don't like being referenced as a code monkey. Any reference to this  trivializes abilities.  The term basically is saying "even a monkey could write this code"
Thanks, Michelle. I'm sure Rhian didn't mean anything by it.

I will post here again when the fixes are done.

No problem. Figured most didn't know what it meant. smiley

I just came across this posting; I suspect it's related. http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/65540/trusted-list-and-manager-mess
