Several daughters of Paquette-2 have the 1st name of Marie. Are these really 1st names?

Millions of Maries - yes and it is said by some that the church put that Marie on all the girls birth record - so some go by the second name - do NOT say middle as french, and french Canadian folks get all bristly if you start calling them middle names
Most all Roman Catholic children in past years where given the first name of a saint. Most often it was John ( Jean ) or Mary ( Marie ) or it could be the name of another saint. Most used the second name in their day to day use. In more recent years the practice has been fading away but we still see examples of it in the Acadian communities of Nova Scotia. It can make for confusing genealogy when trying to locate records as so many have the same first name

Yes I would say this is fairly common in Quebec families.

If you add the 'quebec' or 'quebecois' tags, members more familiar with this practice will be able to assist you.
