US Presidents Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison were cousins

+8 votes
I have been researching the Benyon/Cotton families of Shropshire and Warwickshire and identified a common ancestor of US Presidents Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison. Harrison beat Cleveland in 1888 and Cleveland beat Harrison in 1892. They were 10th cousins once removed, so pretty far back [[Cotton-818|William Cotton]]. Still, I always like to find connections between historical figures like this.

There are still at least seven generations in this possible connection on the Harrison side which have not been verified and marked confident. Likewise, several generations in the Hyde/Abell line of Cleveland that are not yet verified.

If you've verified the earliest Cotton family lineage (William Sr and Jr and John) with primary source documentation, please mark those family relationships confident.

Yes, there are some verified family relationships between the ancestors of both but the link back to William Cotton still needs verification.

William Henry Harrison

11th cousin 3 times removed via Sir Walter Blount

Which makes Benjamin Harrison  13th cousin 1 time removed via Sir Walter Blount

This is the only "verified" connection that I have found, there may be others, we are still working these on WikiTree, so any help is appreciated.
