Family Search is great BUT records can be attached to the wrong person

+6 votes
I recently brought a record over that did not belong to the person but to a person with the same name, similar date. Family Search had connected the person to the wrong people using this record.

If you want people to avoid the same error, a note on the profile helps, but really you probably want to fix Family Search.

I have been able to do merges, add records and even move records on Family Search. Moving the record involved discussing it with someone else on Family Search.

In this case you probably want to unattach people and make sure the record goes on another profile for the almost duplicate person.

You probably want to make sure Wikitree has both of the confused people with the record and relationships on the right person. A note on each profile should explain the confusion. It would be nice to have a template for the confused duplicate situation.

I’ve seen lots of duplicates and confused/conflated people in the FamilySearch family tree; so I look at it like an ancestry tree- look but verify.

It took me a couple months to straighten out my great grandmother, because my grandfather’s middle name was mis written on his WWI draft registration. I still haven’t figured out how the gg grandmother born in 1800 in Rensselaer county was baptized in 1797 in Rhode Island.
