What if a side of my tree could be wrong?

I found a line that is new for paternal ggf. Thought Anthone Lowe was the line for 20 yrs.  Now found suggestion of a different line completly.  Jessie R Lowe and Matilda Crawford are the new lines. I am at a complete loss.

Isn't this fun???? You just have to getcher shovel out and dig deeper. Find out which is the true line by finding solid documents. We can help if you give us the data you have and we'll unearth *see what I did there?* the truth.
Thanks for answering me.  Tell me exactly what you need and I will try to supply it.  I am not familiar with how to get the address for trees to send.

Thank you,

Tommy Lowe

At worst, you might have done a chunk of genealogy that's somebody else's, not yours.  But you can post it on WikiTree and it won't be wasted, it all goes into the One Big Tree.

I think the most helpful thing we could do would be to put sources on your family's profiles, starting with Paul D Lowe.  To trace the right family, we need to know where was he born, did he have any siblings, who did he marry, at minimum.  If you don't want to share that info about Paul, same questions about James P Lowe

by Living Tardy G2G6 Pilot (762k points)
I was about to say the same. Especially since James Lowe appears have been an immigrant. Do you know if his parents immigrated with him, or did he come alone, presumable as an adult?
My primary trees are on ancestry.com.  if you would like to look, just need an email to invite you.  Jim p. Lowe I feel was born in Europe,  his parents came to the U.S with him.  I have my primary tree with him inside it. The other tree is a test tree that suggested a different father and mother for Jim p. LOWE.  I have pursued it back but noticed It matched some of the other Lowes listed on wikitree.  I am lost at this point.

Thanks for the best answer star, Tommy!  smiley

Tommy, I would be happy to look at your tree if you would like.

Did you flag me and Herbert? It's not unusual for newer users to do so thinking it is some sort of tool for complimenting or for creating a reminder. It isn't. You use flag to mark a post as offensive or inappropriate. I believe if two users flag a post it will be hidden until an administrator reviews it.

I wouldn't ask you about it this way, except I truly cannot imagine what Herbert or I said that would be inappropriate - and you're a newer user who might have done it thinking it was something else. Also, apparently you just gave Herbert a best answer star - so I really doubt you found him offensive.

If you didn't flag us, please ignore what I just said. If you did flag us because you do think something was inappropriate, I'm sorry, and I'm truly clueless about this. If you feel comfortable doing so, feel free to message me.
I found you on Ancestry, Tommy.  Which tree is the main one?
Paul Dean Lowe, GF, 1927-1992.  Born in Bradley, Lafayette, Arkansas, USA.  DIED 1992 in Bexar County, Texas.

Jim P. Lowe, GGF, 1887-1966.  Says born in Lafayette county, AR, USA.  I Think probably in Europe, possibly Germany?  Died 1966 in Plain Dealing, Bossier Parish, LA, USA.

ANTHONY LOWE, LOEW, LOEWTZ?  GERMANY BORN.  No listed dates, but says he died during war in Germany..  my first clue he may not be the right one.

Jim has many children from at least 3 wives.

This is the new possible Paternal GGGF.

Jessie R. LOW... 1816-1890.  Born in Green county, Ohio

Died in 1890 in Martinsville, Illinois.

Paternal Gggm...1818-1902.  Born Premble, Ohio and died in Clark County, IL.
Moody Lowe 2018 . Has about 14,000 in it,  the other tree with new potential line is Test Tree Bass or Bass Test Tree.  My user name is birhead47
Sorry, thank for letting me know.  Thought was a good thing.  Wont forget now.  Lol.  Now issues with anyone here.
As your grandfather was born in 1927 in the United States - do you have a 1930 census record for him and/or his father? The 1930 census asked for the birthplace of each person and of their mother and father. Of course, the information isn't always accurate, but it usually is...
There's a Paul in the 1940 Census in Arkansas with JP and Ella and others.  There's JP and Alpha in the 1920 Census in Arkansas with different children.  I can't find them in 1930.  I don't see any overlap in the household members between 1920 and 1940, which makes me leery of concluding it's the same JP.  Both records say he was born in Louisiana.  If your JP was born in Europe, we have some serious discrepancies to reconcile.

Often, digging into the siblings helps resolve these things.  A couple of death certificates, for example, can tie the whole clan together.
Says Jim Lowe in Sdrsiand ?  His 1st wife born in Arbana ?  According to 1940 census.  Not a 1930 listed
The 1940 image says 'Sousiana,' and the same location appears on a couple of other records on the same page.  The census taker was not a champion speller ('Mozouria' was probably Missouri).  On the previous page, there's some cursive writing for Mozouria and Louisiana, where the cursive L in Louisiana looks like an S.  For what it's worth.
Your prob correct about the spelling or census taker.  Makes sense.

Also know Missouri and Louisiana were stoppingpoints for family fro East Coast westward expansion.

I think this is the WW I draft card for Alphie's husband (not convinced it's Paul's father).  Bradley, Lafayette, Arkansas.  Nearest relative, wife Alsie Lowe.  Date of birth "Don't know" 1884.  Native born US citizen.

"United States World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K35M-L8R : 13 March 2018), Jim Lowe, 1917-1918; citing Lafayette County, Arkansas, United States, NARA microfilm publication M1509 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 1,530,468.

Your correct. Ww I draft reg card.  I think he may have not been of age and fudged his age.  Jims 2nd wife was Alpha Gildon,  paul lowes mother.
No offense meant, but we know something is wrong in this tree, so everything is suspect until proven.  I haven't found an Alpha Gildon in any records yet, and I haven't seen any records with Paul and Alpha together.  Do you have something?  I apologize if this sounds harsh; I just believe skepticism is our most powerful tool.

Paul Dean Lowe  in the U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 says

Name: Paul Dean Lowe
[Paul D Lowe]
Gender: Male
Race: White
Birth Date: 28 Apr 1927
Birth Place: Bradley Lafa, Arkansas
Death Date: 27 Nov 1992
Father: James P Lowe
Mother: Alpha Gildon

Of course, this is from after Paul's death...

Thanks, Thomas!
No offense take.  The data was memory of my father.  This also based off some items found on line.  From james jim lowe 1st wife was ella jenkins,  all I could find was one child under her.  The other brothers and sisters were fom Alpha or Alphie Gildon, Lowe.

My father just called, I asked him and he dosnt know anymore about his gf jim p lowe.  He just told me his mother, my gm was pregnant by an adult male family member and Paul took her and married her.  He left soon after that and never returned.  Now I am stuck.  He told me his real fathers name.  Not sure how to approach the following that lead??
I wasnt sure if that was when Paul Lowes 2nd wife applied under his ssn.  She was from Mexico.

Here's the WW II draft card for JP and Alpha's (1920 Census) son Edgar:

"Arkansas First Draft Registration Cards, 1940-1945," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2MKC-7BM : 6 November 2018), Edgar O'Neal Lowe, from 1940 to 1945; citingDraft Registration; citing , NARA Record Group 147 (Southwest Region, Fort Worth, Texas: National Archives and Records Administration, 2013).

It gives his father's name as James Patterson Lowe, so that's pretty solid!  Could Bonnie E Lowe (1940 Census) be Edgar?

Yes, but I think that should be Bennie E Lowe
As far as what you father said about his mother, was your dad the pregnancy in question?

Even if so, Paul Lowe is important to your family history, regardless of whether descent is biological. It's where you get your surname from, amongst other things. I recommend carefully writing down exactly what your dad told you, noting the date. Then I would continue to clear up the Lowe family history, assuming you want to know it.

I myself have a grandfather who was not raised by his biological father. For a long time, I only had a name for his biological father, and no proof at all. Recently, someone on WikiTree helped me find an index to his birth certificate under his biological father's name. Hopefully, in time, i will learn even more.
I have second thoughts on bonnie e lowe..  the edgar was edgar oneal lowe.
Hi, thanks.  I am not just forgetting my paternal gf.  He is all I know of.  But my father, myself, and a younger brother of mine have health issues from young age.  I would like to  know the health issues from thepotentiak burth father.
Of course, do both.
Edgar died 17 Sep 1997.  Social Security Applications & Claims (Ancestry) gives parents James P Lowe and Alphie Gildon.
I see in the 1940 census lists Bonnie E Lowe as male
Yes, and the birth year was about right for Edgar.  Just trying to tie together the 1920 and 1940 James Ps.
That is my fault.  I may have added the wrong james p lowe.  James Patterson Lowe is my paternal ggf.  James Paul Lowe I added thinking was a spelling issue, but dates are different..

No problem, we're there and I didn't recognize it.  Edgar in the 1920 Census and Paul in the 1940 Census had the same mother, per the Social Security Apps & Claims database.  At last I'm convinced the two Censuses are the same James P Lowe.  smiley

Same database has James Patterson Lowe, born 26 Aug 1888 Nathcitoches, Louisiana, parents Anthone Lowe and Jenie Orphen.

You may want to clean up your Ancestry Tree, there's quite a bit of duplication. I swear I've seen at least four Doyles that should be merged together. I think it will make it easier to sort through.
I will continue looking into that route, instead of my test tree. Data.  Yes I will work on that ugly tree soon.  Probably during spring break.  Thanks for helping me with this,  been great working with you...
Thank you,  will keep on my trek with Anton Lowe and Jennie Orphen.  That takes a load off my mind.  Being great working with you and all who helped me here
The Jim Lowe who died in Bossier Parish in 1966 had a different SSN than the James Patterson Lowe born in Natchitoches in 1888.
I know my dad said they called my ggf  Big Jim Lowe.  Born in Lewisville or Bradley, Layfayette, Arkansas.  He was a moonshiner there.
I do have a photo of Jim P lowes headstone at the cemetery he was buried in at Bossier Parish, LA

Nope, he was born in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana.  Here's his WW II draft card:

"United States World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J4MN-74M : 6 November 2017), J P Lowe, 1942; citing NARA microfilm publication M1936, M1937, M1939, M1951, M1962, M1964, M1986, M2090, and M2097 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Born 10 Aug 1888, Pleasant Hill, Louisiana (that's in Natchitoches).  Contact person Woodrow Lowe, Texarkana, Arkansas (his son).  That's two Censuses, the Social Security App & Claims Index, and his WW II draft card all saying he was born in Louisiana.

They have a photo of his stone at FindaGrave.  The mismatched SSNs kinda bother me, but anything is possible.  You might be able to get a death certificate from Louisiana.  They have a James P Lowe who died in Caddo Parish 16 Dec 1966, age 80, that could be him.

I wil attempt to get a death certificate.  Probbly Baton Rouge when they keep those. Will let you know if or when I get it.  If you want a copy..

I'm proud to know Tommy online, who I wish was my cousin. Maybe he could be an honorary cousin?.But I do not know if they allow that. I told some of my colleagues that I want to make them honorary Texans, but they do not always take that as an honor. lol. I mentioned to Tommy that based on his photo, there's a good chance he's a descendant of Pennsylvania Dutch Lowes who migrated southwest after the Native American clearances. I ask ALL Lowes and all WikiTreers to provide help and assistance to our friend Tommy Lowe in his enthusiastic research into his ancestry.

Tommy's tree at Ancestry has a ton of sources and info.  Getting the sources into WikiTree would help us help Tommy, without repeating all the work he has done.
