I am curious to know if my ancestors were "Irish Boat People"?

I am looking for Clarence Byron Adair's (b. Mar 18, 1922 to Arnold Clarence D. Adair and Bessie McCabe in Ontario, Canada) ancestry.  Bessie died while Clarence was a toddler. His father remarried Ethel Woods.  Bessie's branch is of more interest as Clarence did not know his maternal's grandparents.

I would also like to know where the Adair branch is from. I know they came from Ireland at some point, however, as far as I can tell, Adair is not an Irish last name. I have heard its actually Scottish but have not found much information to support this.

From familysearch.org.  Bessie's parents are Anson McCabe b. Canada and Annie Hastings.  It appears that Anson may be the son of Henry and Ann Elizabeth McCabe, but would require more confirmation/research.

Good Luck
