Margaret Echyngham or Bourchier?

Margaret's date of birth is given as about 1 June 1358. 1 June is a common date for many members of this family so has to be suspect. Her place of birth is given as Benningborough in Yorkshire, despite the fact that the Echinghams appear to have been from Sussex. Benningborough has commonly appeared as place for several members of the group of profiles being in question. Benningborough eventually came into the hands of the Bourchier family though not until it was inherited by Sir Ralph Bourchier who was born about 1530. Margaret's husband is given as Sir Thomas Bryan born about 1 June 1378. No Sir Thomas Bryan has been identified at this period and certainly not as son of Sir Guy de Bryan. Suspect this couple started out as Sir Thomas Bryan and Margaret Bourchier. Inclination is to do something, but what?

I think it would be best to cut her loose from her parents. Then we are stuck with Margaret and Thomas. Not sure whats best for them. I think they are not real people. We could put an uncertain existence sticker on them or strip them down and let them be recycled.

I'm finding it a bit frustrating that profile managers for all these Bryan Profiles refuse to engage in G2G discussions to figure out who these people are!

I am systematically working my way back in time through the branch of the Bourchier family to which Margaret Bourchier, Bourchier-5 belongs, as part of the work I am doing for the Magna Carta Project on a Bourchier line going back to a Magna Carta surety. I hope soon to do some work on her, There is already a duplicate profile for her - Margaret Bowsey, Bowsey-5 - and there are duplicates for her husband Thomas Bryan too. She is over a century later than the purported dates for Margaret Echyngham. I note in passing that Margaret Echyngham is said to have had a son Edmund who does not feature in the family of Margaret, Bourchier-5. I agree with Jeanie Roberts that the best course may be to cut Margaret Echyngham loose.

Bowsey-5 and Bourchier-5 are just waiting on a merge. Just these 3 profiles left to deal with, then I think the English Bryans will be OK for a while. Hard to say how these three got here.
C. Mackinnon, thanks. I owe you an apology. A wrong mouse click meant that I converted the pending merge you rightly proposed of Thomas Bryan, Byran-168 and Thomas Bryan, Bryan-1563 to an unmerged match. I have reinstated it as a pending merge. Thanks for your work on them: I was just about to propose a merge of them, and of Margaret Bouchier/Margaret Bowsey, when I found you had got there first! :-)

I have several versions of that last name starting with William de Etchingham I (1333-1484) married to Wlizabeth Criol (1334-1379). Then William de Etchingham II (1376-1413) married to Joan Fityzalan de Arundel (1360-1404). Then Thomas de Echingham I (1401-1482) married to Margaret Knyvett (1372-1467). Then Thomas de Echingham II (1425-1486) married to Margaret West (1426 to 1482).

Hope this helps.

The source for all this appears to be fabpedigree. Can find nothing to substantiate it. Detaching from given parents.
