Are comments lost when merge is completed

Are comments lost that are posted to a profile that is merged into another profile?  Some people post information and sourcing in comments, which should probably be included in a profile.  I came across quite a few profiles last night like that, so I sent a message to the person that posted the comments and he has now added the information into the profiles.

Great question, thanks for asking it!

When profiles are merged all of the comments from both merged profiles are displayed. They're not lost.

Thanks.  I did not want to complete some merges until I was sure of that, but I also think that information, especially with sources, needs to be in the profiles where everyone will see them.
Thanks for the answer, good to know!
Some people don’t want to tread on toes so leave info in comments. Often I add to (or create) ==Research Notes == with possible record of blah. I put the source and anything else found. Then the manager can make the final decision, but the info doesn’t get lost
Marion, I do the same.  I was worried about the many comments this one person included in comments, and he has updated all the profiles that I proposed for merges last night, so I think we are covered for sure now.  At least, they will be in the change log, if PM removes them.  When people put them in comments, we lose them totally.
Yup.  Someone might get the impression that they disappear from this: I will sometimes delete my own comments from a merged profile because what I suggested has already been done (e.g. - which name, place or date is correct).
