Can we fix the problem with contributions missing following a merge?

I recently merged my profile with that of an abandoned profile, and consequently my contributions are no longer tied to my profile. Well, sorta. They don't show up on the contributions page, but they do show up when I check my Watchlist.

I made the merge because the abandoned profile had my first and last names, but absolutely no other information, and the advice I saw in G2G was to merge such a profile with my own. What I didn't realize, however, was that since the abandoned profile was older than my own, it would change my profile ID and, apparently, my contribution count.

Is there any way to fix this, so that the contributions tied to a profile are retained after a merge? After all, when two profiles are merged, it's because they both reference the same person.

P.S. My old profile ID was Lloyd-1428.

Hi Pamela,

I'm sorry, we should probably edit that G2G question that advised merging with an abandoned profile. I think that might be a good idea for passive profiles, but not active ones.

There is some value in maintaining separate contribution lists for separate IDs. As a general rule, when we merge profiles we don't want to erase what happened with them separately. This is important for piecing together the history of what happened. It's less convenient, I know, but there is a functional purpose.

Hi Chris,

I appreciate the functional purpose of keeping the history associated with each profile with that profile, but it seems problematic for active members to lose credit for work they've done. I also notice that this seems to be handled differently, depending upon which page I'm on. For example, my Family Activity Feed page still shows the work I've done, although it does so by linking to Lloyd-1428, which then re-directs to my new profile. Perhaps there's a similar way to link to the contributions?

Just a thought.
