I think the point system is screwey

It looks like comments don't get any points?! There the best part. And choosing a best answer gets everybody 400 points. Some people go crazy and pick best answers just too geta lot of points. If you ask a question you should get to pick the best answer. You don't need somebody telling you its the best answer to you're question How do they know?

Personally, I pay NO attention to points-- mine or others.

Hi Anonymous,

Note that since you weren't logged-in when you posted this, no G2G points can be tracked for you.

You are correct that comments don't generate points. I agree that they should.

No single action generates anything close to 400.

We don't talk a lot about the points here because we don't want to overemphasize them. You'll find that most people who answer questions here are doing it because they want to help others with genealogy.

Chris is correct. Points are simply a by product of the desire to help others. The points system does not mean one with many points is a superior genealogist. There is no correlation. The system was devised to get people to participate inn G2G, not to rate ability.

Participation in G2G is also a great way to hone your skills at finding ancestors.

As WikiTree is one big family, the g2g feed is also a big family.  As you learn the ropes on the site, many of us volunteers choose to share our experiences to help others either with advice on how to research or how to navigate the site itself.  When a best answer is chosen, it is to let the person asking the question know that it is the best advice to take, even though other answers may be helpful as well.  I don't look at the points as a contest, but it is helpful to know that a volunteer is active and knowledgeable based on their standing in the points.
