Hi, I'm looking for my great-great-grandfathers' parents.

Patrick Maher came to the United States by at least 1821--his first son, William, was born then. Alexander is my my great-great-grandfather's name. According to my great-aunt's work, and she quoted Portrait and Biographical Album, Henry County, Illinois--Dec 1885--Chicago Biographical Publishing Co. page 342, Alexander's dad was from Ireland. His mom was Phebe TenEyck of New York. Patrick's headstone is in Westerlo, NY along with Phebe's. The headstone reads "Died Jan 16, 1863, Aged 71 years ____ 28 days."

According to Christopher Ward's entry in Ancestry.com (which I can't access without paying now) it said: "Patrick Maher was born on March 18, 1791, in Ireland. He had three sons and one daughter with Phebe Ten Eyck. He died in 1863 in Westerlo, New York, at the age of 72, and was buried there."  This coincides with information in http://albanyhilltowns.com/wikiBio/index.php?title=Maher,_William

Any idea how to trace back to Ireland? I've tried 1820 census and found a Patrick Maher aged 30 but don't have a way of figuring out if that's the same Patrick.
