My grandmother, Louise Anne Smith. It just doesn't get much girlier than sausage curls and massive bows.

And in addition to the curls and bows, your grandmother was a beautiful child.

This is a 1899 photo of my grandmother Pearl McCleery age 14.  She  certainly does look girly, but so do her younger brothers, Kyle and baby Harry.  By today's standards only her older brother Charles looks like a boy.

Gorgeous photo of your grandmother She really look adorable
All four of the children are beautiful.  I love your grandmother's girls.

Thank you for sharing this lovely photo with us.
During that time period, babies of both sexes wore dresses and didn't get their hair cut.  There's a rather famous picture of a U.S. president (can't remember which one, FDR?) as a toddler, and he definitely looks like a girl to us in modern times.
It probably was just easier to dress all small children alike, and putting a diaper on is easier with a dress. Funny how times change, now parents often dress baby girls in pants.

My dad, John Sims, had a pin-up girl calendar on a wall in his work area.  My mom, Ruth Rammel-Sims, pasted a cut-out photo of her face over the pin-up girl's face.

My dad was a mechanic, I so remember some of 'those kinds" of photos in his shop.  I just love what your mom did.  It made me chuckle.
That is priceless! I love your mom already.

Hi:

I'm new here and this is my first photo... She is my grandmother, Margarita Hernández Díez, and the photo wwas taken in Valencia (Spain) in 1937.

by Margarita López Gila G2G6 Mach 1 (18.1k points)
Lovely!  I'm about 2 hours drive from Valencia.  Growing up in the US, I remember the TV commercials in the 1970's for orange juice, "We use only the finest Valencian oranges."  It was the first time I drove to Valencia and as I crested the mountain and looked down, all I saw was orange groves - it, for the first time, dawned on me where our California oranges came from.
Your grandmother is so feminine and lovely. Thank you for sharing her with us.
gorgeous photo of of your grandmother, she really look stylish, thank You Margarita for sharing wonderful photo

I have two out of three - the third should be described as handsome.  My great aunts Annie and Peggy, an great uncle Arthur:

by SJ Baty G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
Arthur looks very manly, and is surrounded on both side with two very "girly" girls. I love how all three are dressed. Thank you, SJ, for sharing this photo.
Adorable photo SJ of your two gorgeous great  aunts and great uncle wonderful photo

Thank You for sharing

This photo had inspired me to go and improve these profiles of my great-aunts and uncles.  Sadly, Uncle Arthur contracted TB while on board a US Navy warship and died at the young age of 27.

From curls and bows to flapper babe! My husbands grandmother Dorothy Romaine (Eisensmith) Kornbau. She was born in 1911 so we are thinking the photo of her as a child would be around 1920 and the flapper around 1930.

This is my grandma's youngest sister, Nita.  She was always chic, stylish, and a little girly in her photos.  I love this one.

These two beautiful young ladies are my husband's grandmother, Cora Beulah and Adele Helena Patten when they were about three and five years old (1886). I love that Cora is fully dressed with stockings and boots and Adele is barefooted.

Not an old photo (1963), but when it was time for my second grade school photo, my parents were in Hawaii and my grandmother curled my hair using rags (she made me sleep in them).  Since I was a major tomboy, this was definitely "girly".

by Bonnie Guadalupe G2G6 Mach 1 (12.4k points)
I remember those bows. You look gorgeous.. and girlie!
Thank you.  That photo was actually a retake of my school photo.  Somewhere I have the first one with strands of my hair sticking out all over the place from my ponytail.  My mom bought both pics because she thought this one was cute, but the other one was how I normally looked.
Beautiful photo of you Bonnie thank You for sharing

My grandmother Jean Mathias after she won the title of Senior Blossom Festival Queen in Alexandra, New Zealand in the Spring of 1998. She was 80 years old at the time. She died in 2013. It is a very GIRLY thing to do to enter beauty pageants in the hopes of winning!! The newspaper article has also been uploaded to the Space Page.

My family, being pioneers, were not known for "girly" girls. Here are a couple of photos of girls doing "girly" things. The first is my cousin once removed, Mae Steadman, holding her cousin, my aunt Mildred, in 1916.

52_Photos_Week_9_Girly-6.jpg

This second is my grandmother, Edith Forrey, sewing on an early sewing machine. It is not dated, but by her apparent age and hair style, I believe this was taken when she was living in the home of one of her older brothers, in Idaho around 1911, before she had thyphoid, almost died, and lost much of her hair, and before she was married. She is the mother of baby Mildred in the first photo.

This is probably the most "Girly" pic I have of my grandmother [[Lindsay-1371|Doris May Lindsay]], who knew this little lady would grow up to be a librarian in a Women's Reformatory in Framingham, Massachusetts!
