Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and noone can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. And they should be DEAD! If you manage a profile for any living notable, would you please replace any Notables categories on that profile with [[Category:Living Notables]]? That could clear out a lot of profiles that people can't work on from the various Notables categories, and also keep all the living notables in one place to make them easy to find, should the need arise.

Wikipedia has a list of those who died last month, and another of those who have died so far this month. (You can even find a list of people who died this month last year.)

Last Month - Feb 2019

I labeled an existing profile with a Notable Sticker, and created another just last week. Am I supposed to notify someone about this?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sorrel-42

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mackall-151

Nope!!

Anyone who looks at the profile will see the sticker. but no it's not absolutely necesasary.

However you have notified us now - so you are all done!!  LOL
I am interested in the Notables Project. Most particulary in Identifying Notable Women in my family tree and then researching more about them, and adding to their wikitree biographies.
Thank you for all that you do showcasing our Notables!
Kathryn,

Please repost this question on the JUNE 2019 thread.
This one is March 2019!!

Below is the June thread

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/840343/notables-june-2019?show=840343#q840343

Most of us don't usually go back to the old threads....

Thanks.

Robynne

For being such a short month there sure was quite a few notable individuals who passed away.
by Dean Anderson G2G6 Pilot (774k points)

Andy Anderson (born Clifford Leon Anderson) drummer of the rock band The Cure, died just a few days ago.

Several musicians passed very recently:

Sara Romweber of Let's Active --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let%27s_Active

Janice Freeman - singer and contestant on The Voice

Paul Williams --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Williams_(British_singer)

Stephan Ellis, bassist for Survivor --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephan_Ellis

Doug Sandom, drummer for The Who --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Sandom

And that's pretty much in the past week alone...

Wayne Kramer of the MC5 should be connected once the database updates. He is of French Canadian ancestry and therefore is an eighth cousin (a couple times removed) of both Celine Dion and Madonna. As he is a living person, his profile is unlisted, however.

Went in to this profile yesterday, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilson-53429, primarily to add a couple of Categories.  Then, as I read her story, found a couple of sources, and added family members I realised 'what a woman!'  What a story.  Surely one of the most under-rated women achievers of all time!  Grace is now a Notable.

I accidentally connected a big band singer Vaughan Monroe (whom I had never heard of before) while connecting his un-notable grandma and now he is connected all the way back to his German ancestors which he probably didn't know he had.

I have added the wikipedia page to his profile

Luke Perry died on Monday 4 March at age 52.

He was a well known TV actor - best known for the Teen Drama (original) Beverley Hills 90210 in the 1990s and lately he was on the Teen drama Riverdale as the father of one of the main characters.

He was notoriously private about his personal life.

His profile has been made public:

And he is connected to the global tree! :)

Her profile has been started:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Helmond-9

It does not appear that it has been connected yet.
This article has some good leads:

https://www.genealogymagazine.com/katherine-helmond/

But I am skeptical of "Ulysses Simpson Grant Walker"

I connected Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane/Starship) through his wife Karen Deal.

Excellent. I've been working on Paul Kanter (also of Jefferson Airplane/Starship) but haven't gotten him connected yet.
Paul is connected now, and I think it is through another bandmember whose name must not be spoken.  Her first name is the word that usually follows Amazing, and her last name is the word that usually follows Oil.

Ah yes, they had a daughter together and her name is the same as a large country in Asia.

Race Baron? wink

I got a good start on Morgan Woodward, who is probably most well remembered for his role as the "Boss with No Eyes" in the prison movie Cool Hand Luke. He also guest starred in more television series (especially westerns) more times than nearly any other star, and confirmed more times than any other person in a few of them (Gunsmoke, for example).

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodward-6219

I've connected him through his paternal line, but haven't even started his maternal line at all. If anyone wants to assist, please feel free.

Richard Nixon's last sibling passed away as well. His profile is not public, but if you have an interest in him, you may ask for permission to edit:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nixon-1596
Noted mathematician Conway Berners-Lee also passed recently. His profile has been updated to reflect his date of death and you may request access if you wish to help improve his profile. He is connected to the global tree.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Berners-Lee-1
Ruth Browser, aka Lisa Seagram, the actress, also passed away recently.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Browser-1

She had a career that spanned from 1958 to 1976, including a few repeat appearances in Burke's Law and The Beverly Hillbillies as well as notable appearances in television shows such as Batman, Perry Mason, and The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.

If you have any interest on improving her profile, please feel free to help.
Isaac Asimov's widow Janet has passed away.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jeppson-6

Her profile is open now for editing.
Indiana politician Birch Bayh passed away a few days ago and his profile is open in case anyone wants to improve upon it.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bayh-13
I have been spending some time working on bandleader and clarinetist Mickey Katz, who is the father of Joel Grey the actor. Fascinating guy - got his autobiography from the library and reading his funny stories of his travels and his life. Still haven't been able to connect him yet, but did connect his family to another unconnected strand of profiles that connected him to an inactive member. Oh well - at least that group's now larger...

But if anyone wants to assist, I'll put Mickey's profile link here and you can take a look.

Italian film director Bernardo Bertolucci (Last Tango in Paris, Sheltering Sky, The Last Emperor) died last November.  I connected him through his half-Irish, half-Italian mother born in Australia. We live on a crazy planet, full of intersecting diasporas.

I have added Salem Poor, c 1747-c 1802, Revolutionary War soldier, featured on a USPS stamp.  The only way I have found to connect him is via his "owner," John Poor, from whom he borrowed his surname and purchased his freedom.  Salem Poor was married 4 times and we have the names of his wives but know little about them.  Would love to know if anyone can find additional connections.

The other day I ran through the Notables list and added a bunch of pictures to Profiles that had none. That way I saw that this table isn't up-to-date. Many people are said to have no pic, but have it.

by Jelena Eckstädt G2G Astronaut (1.4m points)
Yes. I have asked for help in maintaining that table, because I have too many things on WikiTree that I'm trying to maintain.
I added some sources and family members to some of the people there and "cleaned up" the table a bit.
Thank you!

So, are we going to put together a Notables Project team for the Spring Clean-a-Thon?

by Greg Slade G2G6 Pilot (669k points)
I will admit that I'm hard pressed for time these days, so sadly I'll pass. But I'll be doing my own version of spring cleaning by reviewing my watch list which continues to grow and needs to shrink.
It would be nice if people could see the error/suggestion lists for Notable Project Wikitree. For instance unconnected notables.
Thanks Greg!
You're welcome.

I added some people to the in-laws of Irving Berlin. His brother-in-law E Roy Goetz was his co-worker in the music industry. E Roy's wife Irène Bordoni was a popular stage actress herself. She was born in Paris and although I found her birth entry (linked in her profile) I wasn't able to extract her parents of the entry. That would be something for a Native French speaker.

Can someone help connect Buford Pusser? If the name sounds familiar, it's because he was the tough-as-nails sheriff of McNairy county, Tennessee, who was depicted in a movie called Walking Tall in the '70s. I think anyone who's seen it will recall the classic scene in which Buford Pusser (as portrayed by Joe Don Baker) clears out a gambling house using a hickory stick. By the end of that movie, I'm not sure there was so much as a man with an unpaid parking ticket left in the state of Tennessee.

He should be connected tonight.

Apparently just in time for the peak Messier marathon season, French astronomer Charles Messier is finally connected to the global tree.  I realized this past weekend that a Bonnay profile that I had added last year while working on the descendants of Louis Jolliet was from the same Bonnay family as Messier's mother-in-law.

Also, I want to say thanks to Isabelle Rassinot for helping with the connection, as she added some of the profiles, improved others, and found evidence of parentage for one of the key profiles along the connection path.

by Greg Lavoie G2G6 Pilot (368k points)
Congrats Greg! Well done to both you and Isabelle!!!
Thank you, Greg. But finding the link between the two Bonnays was the real most important step towards the connection.

Now there is still the Connectors page to update... https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Let_others_know_what_locations_you_are_working_on#Unconnected_French_Branches

I've updated the link-thanks for pointing that out.

Astronomer and surveyor (and co-discoverer of Messier objects) Pierre Méchain is now connected to the tree as well.
