My cousin's  Cowan Y-DNA  111 marker test shows a relationship to the Alexander and McCord families.  Does anyone have any knowledge of how these family line may have melded?

Any leads will be appreciated.

My best guess would be because these particular surnames lived in the same geographic areas at one time in history. I suspect that you will find all these names located near each other in SW Scotland before 1500's. I have already studied the Ydna results on Cowan and McCord and have found similar matches. After studying each of these Clan histories, it was easy to find the cause of the matches. Alexander I have not researched, but have seen this name located near other McCords in America about 1700's. It is very common for families who lived near each other in the old country to migrated together and settle near each other in the New country. Hope this helps? kathleen
