I added a child when I think I should have merged the parents. Now what?

I was adding the children to my 6th-great grandparents, but one of the children already had a profile. I always check this, but I haven't experienced this very often. I asked to be added to this person's trusted list and when I was, I added that profile as a child of those 6th-great grandparents that were already in my family tree. But I think I should have merged the parents instead. I thought I'd be able to do that afterwards, but I think I was supposed to do that instead of adding the child. The result was unexpected. The ancestors that previously went back several generations in the existing profile for the child are no longer shown for that child. It's as if my adding her as a child in my genealogy made my genealogy trump the information that already existed in her profile. So now what do I do to fix this?

The mother can be found in the Changes log:

And she has a husband:

I looked at the tree for Margaret and it looks like her mother Wicks is not connected to her parents which is why that line doesn't go back further. The same thing may be happening on the paternal side. Go to the most distant ancestor in each branch and connect (or reconnect) them to their parents. You may find more duplicates to merge as you go, unfortunately. Please know that we all create duplicates which have to be merged, no matter how hard we try not to. You are not alone.

I can't add the parents because I have no idea who they are. I could see them previously when I at first noticed that the separate profile had different relatives linked to it but when I added the profile as a child of my line, her ancestors are no longer visible.

There were four duplicate profiles and I have now proposed merges for all four. I have reconnected Margaret to her original parents.

There is a problem with one of the John Harry profiles connected to the original Nicholas profile as the father. I have notified the profile manager of the issue as that profile does not appear to represent the correct John Harry. However, there was an additional John Harry profile that I have proposed to merge with your duplicate.

Duplicates should be merged from the oldest generation forward.

Hope this helps to get things sorted. wink
