Should the system allow the same profile be listed as his own father?

Thomas Tabor-529  is listed as his own father. Shouldn't the system recognize this and not allow the same profile being listed as father and son? There was a merge done and the parent listed is the same profile.

The system is ready to handle clones :D

What a genealogical nightmare that could be...

It should not, but it does...

Typically this results from either an inport of invalid data, or a bad merge of father and son with the same name. Detection of invalid/circular relationships (as well as impossible dates on people in birth/marriage/death relationships) is something I've been asking for, a very long time, I'm told it's on the list of improvements. Wondering how difficult it would be to add a new Bot which searched for those, similar to the current MatchBot. It would go a very long way towards improving the quality of the data on WikiTree.

Thanks Michelle for fixing.

I'd like to see protection at three levels for this -

import of gedcoms - should flag it if it doesnt? (and not allow it)

at merge - software check

at adding of parent or child record manually ...

Alternately - similar to other report pages of possible matches or orphaned profiles - a way to check systemwide or the profiles one has on watch - to see if such loops already exist - and flag them for correction.
