I've got my mother's maternal line back to the 16th century but no sources!

It's not I who have traced them back, but other researchers -- but they have no sources whatsoever. I've just sent them private messages requesting sources (two different persons are the profile managers on all these early ancestors).

If they're not forthcoming, is there anything else I can do?  Thanks

If you have the desire to work on them, take each profile one at a time and just try to find one source for that person. Sometimes one source can also be used for the spouse or some children. Take it slow while waiting for a reply from the profile manager. At least you would feel that you were accomplishing something on your family line and it might help others who are researching your same family.

Well said, Virgnia.

You may also want to add the {{Unsourced}} Research Note Box (ideally, with a location) above the bio in a profile to indicate that the profile doesn't have any sources. So in Bernhard's profile, you could add {{Unsourced|Switzerland}}. This can draw attention from Sourcerers and other WikiTrees who are actively trying to source unsourced profiles and may help to get sources added to the profile.

See the Template:Unsourced help page for more info.

Other than the hard slog of sourcing them yourself? Probably not although a question here could reap some rewards. Patience is required, a month might bot be too long to wait for a response.

I am not certain why you would have thought that Jim and I would not be forthcoming. I suspect Jim may have made the same mistake I did. I deleted all unacceptable  sources from my tree at some point ( millennium file, family trees etc ) but failed delete said persons with only those sources from my gedcom. But as we discussed, Pat, our family tree is more likely Haas ( DNA proof ) then it is Lehman before Leaman-41. I think I got them all marked as unsourced. My preference at this point was to delete them, as I couldn't find anything solid to prove they existed.
