I appreciate your research into the Carroll family very much.  I can not say for sure if I am a descendant or not.

However, I do believe that my Grandfather John Carroll had a Grandfather also named John Carroll who was born about 1840 somewhere in Ireland.

Not sure exactly when my John Carroll (senior) emigrated, but he ended up in and near Carroll County Ohio.  As I understand it, that is mostly coincidental as there were  so many Carroll's leaving Ireland near that time.  Carroll County was founded/named after an entirely different Carroll than my family.

Should not say that I have given up, but have recognized that distinguishing somebody from among a number of other individuals with such a common name is unlikely to produce convincing conclusions.

Sometimes it helps to eliminate a family line.

There is a "Carriel" line of  that morphed into "Carroll" in early New England.

I'm descended from Joseph Carriel, Carriel-7 b. 1732 in Sutton, Mass.  Joseph Carriel Jr 's surname was recorded as Carroll.

This may NOT make your search easier, but it could help in the long run.
