Y'all Did An Awesome Job!!!!

Hey Y'all follow this link if you have time to fix some 603's in North Carolina, In the upper left corner hit next pick a page and work on them. I am on Page 3

http://www.softdata.si/wt/Err_20190421/NC/603_60_0.htm

How's everyone doing? Time to Laugh a Little!

Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold potato salad. If the neighbor's trouble is a real crisis, they also know to add a large banana puddin'!

Only Southerners grow up knowing the difference between "right near" and "a right far piece." They also know that "just down the road" can be 1 mile or 20.

Only a Southerner both knows and understands the difference between a redneck, a good ol' boy, and po' white trash.

No true Southerner would ever assume that the car with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn.

A Southerner knows that "fixin" can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adverb.

Only Southerners make friends while standing in lines, ... and when we're "in line,".. we talk to everybody!

Put 100 Southerners in a room and half of them will discover they're related, even if only by marriage.

In the South, “y'all” is singular, all y'all” is plural.

Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them.

"Might could go" means just what it says.

I want each and everyone of y'all to know how much your work is appreciated! You are making a huge impact on the Health of WikiTree! Thank you so much!!!

Washington State is FREE Country and they 1,850 603's USA too early for date of birth

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:DBE_Errors_By_USA_Div_9#Washington

Check all of our states for the following errors!

On the Spreadsheet at the bottom there is a tab for all States by Suggestion, Y'all can look there for 603, 631, 633, 802, 835, 851, 611, 641 are the easiest Suggestions

Are All Y'all Ready for the FUN!

Proud of you!!! Our Team is Rocking This Thon Out!!!
Wow, after 20 hours of being up yesterday I had a hard time getting my eyes open, now it seems like forever since I have been here.  I am almost afraid to look at the totals so I have been avoiding that page. LOL

I hope everyone is having a beautiful day,  It is gorgeous here in northwest Georgia with a perfect temperature of 66 and sunny.
Hey Paula, I took a 3 hour nap and then took hubby out for breakfast since it is his birthday! Take a short break (emphasis on short, lol) We are in a solid 2nd place which is amazing!!!
I think we’re through with 603.  Any suggestions?
Look at Maryland 603, I am working on the last page of that one. But there are 3909 603 in Maryland:)
Thanks!
Go get em girl!
I'll try to get some of those MD 603s also. I go cross-eyed looking for some of these errors in bios and sources. I know those are necessary, but each one takes so long, too.
South Carolina had 3909 603's, I can't tell how many have been fixed but there's a ton of them there.
Loretta, I think most of the SC 603s are done--I don't know who else was doing them, but I can't find more to fix. Every one I kept clicking was already done. I hope it was our team doing them!

Sounds good! There are a ton of them!!!

Do we have Chisholm-1651 on our team? every profile I'm hitting has the fix done by them already.

Yes, Ginger is on our Team.
Lisa, I sent Mike and email, hopefully he can get it straightened out with Eowyn.
Thanks on both of the above!
Paula, that's funny -and how things work. My long researched and anticipated total kitchen and family room remodel is happening as I write. There's a table saw going in the next room. Good thing I don't need to hear to hit buttons!
Switching to NC 603 -too  many others on MD now.
Y'all are real troopers! Keep u the good work!
Lisa, my renovations have been going on for nearly two years.  I always tell people it takes a lot longer with two disabled people and one elderly that should be disabled trying to do the work. Sometimes my son-in-law will help if my daughter gets mad enough and my son is a truck driver that is seldom home.  He has to keep the world running.  He is also the one we need the most.  He is like his dad was, a jack of all trades.  I know how to do the stuff  that needs done but with arthritis in my hands and fingers it is harder for me to do things now.  Wish I could win a lottery, just a small one with about 60k would do.  Then I could hire someone to come in and finish it up.  LOL
Paula, I get that! I'm officially disabled, but not so bad I can't do some things, and my husband is in his late 60s. Not too old, but he's not as handy as I am. We have an amazing General contractor we is doing really great, fast work. My only issue is te noise! Between the saw and the screw gun, I swear, my ears are going to start bleeding any second!

I'm a long time researcher, but new to wiki tree and haven't participated in a 'thon' of any kind before.  My family is from OK, TX, AR, KY, TN, VA going back to before the American Revolution, (yes, I'm a DAR member).  Every few generations my family would uproot themselves and move west so I've done research in several states.  I'm interested in learning more about fixing errors.  I'm never sure how much time I will have to participate, I am a caregiver and sometimes my time is not my own.

Looking forward to getting acquainted with all of you

Leslie Bell
by Leslie Bell G2G6 Mach 2 (22.7k points)
Woot! Leslie, we are proud to have you as a new member to our team. We have a lot of fun with this Thon. As for myself, I pick the easy peazy fixes, USA too early, just depends on what you like to fix.
I am looking forward to learning how to make corrections.  I am seeing duplicates and have suggested merges that haven't been done.  For example, Laight-1 and Laight-9 are the same person, but are showing up as sisters.  That has led to issues of the marriage to John Hance, who is also duplicated as Hance-82 and Hance-332.   The result is their children are showing up as half-siblings.  It is a mess.  I don't want to make it worse, so I'm adding my ancestors, who are their grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc individually rather than uploading a gedcom and then trying to fix that!  As I said, I am new to wikitree so I'm not even sure if this is the sort of clean up this project is intending to do.

Thanks for the welcome, and all suggestions are welcome.  Hope your storm is over and the clean up goes smoothly.

Leslie
Leslie, be sure if you add yours to one of those existing profiles that are duplicated that you use the lower of the two numbers.  When they are merged the lower one is the one that gets kept.  Glad you are here.  Now I am not the newbie. Yea!
Thank you for the info, that is helpful.

Loretta you are a geek after my own heart W00T! I'm really looking forward to working with this group!

Now, here's a question for y'all, Has anyone ever done a "thon" on Zoom or similar meeting space? We can all be on voice and/or camera in and out if we want to. I have a "meeting room" if anyone wants to give it a shot or if one of our leaders would like to schedule different times to "check in" live. It might be a fun way to to the work and cheer each other on.

That sounds interesting.

Our group has got to be the Best and Funnest ones on WikiTree!

We are gonna "Rock This Thon Out".

I was here for the Scan-a-thon but this is my first Clean-a-thon,  What kind of things do you do on a Clean-a-thon?  I was thinking it was like cleaning up errors but not sure.

I work on the categorization project maintenance team so I fix empty category errors every day so was wondering if it is like fixing those, if so I have plenty I can clean. smiley

by Paula Franklin G2G6 Pilot (108k points)
We fix any of the suggestions listed here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Data_Doctors

We use the lists for our Southern Super Sweeper areas to find proflles to fix:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:DBE_Errors_By#South   the full list of target states is listed on our team page located here:

I was just "Informed" that I have obligations on Saturday that will make me absent for at least three hours. I AM NOT HAPPY! frown

The offender (my husband), says our finances are more important. MEH! However, I"ll be on all day Fri the hours I can on Sat and all day Sun.

Sorry to let the team down. crying

by Lisa Linn G2G6 Mach 9 (91.9k points)
Good comeback Lisa!

Loretta --

Practice on other states that we don't cover and when the thon hits you will be ready to fly through those suggestions!

This doesn't seem to be in line with good sportsmanship.

I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate other team captains sending their teams over to practice on the states you're hoping to cover. wink

Julie, there are a lot of States that are not covered by Teams, what is wrong with cleaning them prior to the Thon. wink

I have tried to list States that ARE NOT covered by other Teams.

Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington State, Wyoming

I believe it is safe to practice cleaning on those States. If I am incorrect, please let me know!

I'm pleasantly SURPRISED at how short the list of PRACTICE states is! it's amazing to think that in the USA OVER 40 STATES ARE REPRESENTED! Way to GO WikiTree.

Lisa, I also have a lunch-date that Saturday (something we do every Saturday.) As Loretta said--Live Family First--in my case, Live Friends First.

Thanks for clarifying that, Loretta. smiley

Sorry, I didn't state it clearly in the beginning. I am making a point of directing them to States not covered by Teams from now on. wink

No worries! Thanks so much!
So basically a pacific northwest team would whittle that down to hawaii and alaska.

We're just about two weeks out from the Fun! Does anyone need any help. Last night I put together a bunch of pictures about the Spreadsheet. There is a ton of information on the Spreadsheet. Just give me a shout out and I will email you the picture book. :)

We must remember to thank Steven for putting it together for us. I use the tools on this Spreadsheet year round. There is an Info Tab, it contains a lot of useful information. Take a look

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jlRaiRtaMEpsPdeuRLS2ids4HAXJyGVCKiQyEMh4NNE/edit#gid=1869015104

Remember, our goal is to make WikiTree healthier for future generations!

by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (244k points)
Glad to see someone gets usage out of the spreadsheet.
Silly Rabbit, what are you doing over here?  Thank you for putting this all together for the Teams! I find it very useful...when I remember where it is.  lol

Thank you Steven. That spreadsheet has helped me clean out all of the dreck I had in my Bookmark folder labeled "Wikitree Resources." Now would you please take a look at my WHOLE Genealogy folders' bookmarks and do another one for me? Thanks so much! LOL! kiss devil wink

Thank you Loretta for finding it in time to share with us for the Thon. I'm sure it will be invaluable.

Us cousins gotta stick together and clean our Tree. cheeky

Lisa, if you have things that would be useful to a lot of people, by all means add it to the info tab.

Loretta, I'm having trouble getting my text to wrap on the Spreadsheet.  Everything's set right, it just doesn't wrap. frown

Across the Top there is a tab called Format, click on it and scroll down, you will see Align and also Wrap Text. wink

No, I know that (Google Certified Teacher remember)? Also tried the right click and format cell -nothing.

Fill it in and email Steven, he can format it.  cheeky winkblush

He can fix anything!

Ok, I had a little time off today and got to playing around with the “Your Genealogical Relationship” at the bottom of the profile pages. This is what I learned:
1. S J and Loretta are 11th cousins
2. Leslie and Loretta are 6th cousins three times removed
3. Victoria and Loretta are 13th cousins once removed
4. Virginia and Loretta are 14th cousins
5. Sharon and Loretta are 9th cousins once removed
6. Debra and Loretta are 8th cousins twice removed
7. Ginger and Loretta are 10th cousins
8. Lisa and Loretta are 7th cousins
9. Bonita and Loretta are 7th cousins Three times removed
10. Leah and Loretta are 9th cousins
11. Kathryn and Loretta are 10th cousins once removed
12. Sherri and Loretta are 9th cousins once removed
13. Pip and Loretta are 6th cousins once removed
14. Nelda and Loretta are 10th cousins once removed
15. Janet and Loretta are 10th cousins twice removed
16. Kathy and Loretta are 9th cousins twice removed
17. Mike and Loretta are 11th cousins once removed
18. Kathryn and Loretta are 8th cousins once removed
Who would have thought that we would have so many DNA connections on Our Team. cheeky

by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (244k points)
We're just special that way! You can call us kissing cousins I suppose!

Loretta, of all those connections, you and I are closest.
Yes, we are "Special"

I think I was dropped off by an alien space craft.   I am related to so few people when we do this.  But I have 1771 people on my watchlist.  I have direct lines that go back to the 1400s and in my brick wall line the 1800s.

I am 28 degrees from F. Scott Fitzgerald31 degrees from Bart Triesch and 22 degrees from Henry VIII of Englandon our single family tree

But alas, I rarely show up as connected to any of my WT friends... go figure...

Maybe you were dropped off by an alien spacecraft but you are certainly special to all of us here on WilkiTree!
I love that we are cousins!
Just another fun thing about our team.

That's pretty cool Loretta. smiley

MAJOR STRATEGY CHANGE!

1. There are too few 603 Suggestions except in South Carolina. We need at least 4 volunteers working on South Carolina 603 Suggestions during the Thon. 3,909 USA too early in South Carolina

2. Suggestion 631, Wrong word in death location, this usually means copy and paste the cemetery name in the bio and deleting it from the death location. See Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

3. Suggestion 835, Local File Reference, This is a sticky one, local file references must be removed because no one can see these. May require an long explanation to the profile manager. But there are a plethora of these, 500 to 1500 per state. Be prepared for backlash from profile managers.

4. Suggestion 868, Just paste in <references /> directly below ==Sources==, there are between 204 to 598 in all states.

5. Suggestion 851, Gedcom uncleaned interpret date. This one is a little more difficult because you have to read through all the Gedcom data and find and delete Interpret Date.

6. Suggestion 802, Empty Profile, you just need to past in the following:
{{Unsourced}}
==Biography==
==Sources==
<references />

But there are only about 100 of these per State.

7. Suggestions 611 and 641, birth or death location in lowercase. All that needs to be done to these is capitalized the first letter of the place name. But there are only 10 to 30 of these per State.

Here is a link to the 2018 statistics, it will give you an idea what was accomplished in the previous Thon. Do not feel overwhelmed by the numbers! Clean what you can do comfortablely.

http://wikitree.sdms.si/Challenges/CleanAThon/TeamUserAndSuggestion.htm

Remember, this is supposed to be fun, not stressful!

by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (244k points)
I will work on 631 Loretta, I got a lot of practice with them last week and they are quite easy.
I can do some of South Carolina's 603s. You just remove USA or United States, leave a message why it was removed, right?
I will also help with South Carolina profile errors since I live there.
Paula, that is great!
Nelda, I keep a word page open off to the side with standard messages listed. see examples

Removed USA to early for date of birth

Removed USA to early for date of death

USA too early

Corrected capitalization on place name

Just make you a list and keep it where you can just copy and paste your explanation. It makes it super fast and easy to drop those explanations in without having to type them everytime.  :)

I added NC-603 NC/SC-802, 611, 641

Sandra, thank you! You are a real trooper!

Please Practice on these States

as they are not covered by a team and may get neglected.

Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii,

Idaho, Montana, Oregon,

Washington State, Wyoming

Lisa Linn, I knew I could count on you to jump on this this biggie. Y'all be sure to practice on the States not covered by a Team. Coordinate with each other as to what page number you will work on during the Thon. SC 603's will have several endless pages of suggestions to fix.  :)
Loretta, thank you. I'm trying to find the chat function -we're both on but "the instruction is to the upper right on the left of comments?" Huh?
Just added 868 for NC and SC -I'll move to other states as I'm able.
Lisa,

This is the Chat Room for Super Sweepers.  Just email me, that will get my attention. :) It pops up on my phone, laptop and computer. Sounds like a bunch of cuu-cuu clocks. lol
I can work on 603 for S.C. since I live there.
That will be Great!

Could some check the spreadsheet? I made a change a bit ago to add something I would be working on, but when I go back to it now, it looks totally different. I hope I didn't break it. It says "anonymous" made the last change. Thanks!
by Nelda Spires G2G6 Pilot (563k points)
Make sure you are signed in to WikiTree or it will record your changes as Anonymous and you won't get credit for them. :)

If I'm online, I'm logged in to WikiTree...I have the fever! laugh

I thought I was always logged in to WikiTree but I was informed last night that WikiTree has been logging people off for inactivity. Who knew? It was new to me...I'm like addicted to WikiTree.  lolcheeky

Nelda the spreadsheets only update weekly. When the Thon starts, there is a tab on the top of our Spreadsheet that will give updates every 5 minutes.  :)
+8 votes
Okay, I feel totally stupid about asking about this, but I'm going to anyway so if there are any other participants who feel as befuddled as I do, they can find out also...

On the weekend of the Clean-a-Thon, will there be error reports generated for each state and, if so, where will we find those reports? I see a fairly current error report for Alabama at the bottom of our team page. Will there be others like that for other states and will we find them on our team page or where on that weekend?
by Nelda Spires G2G6 Pilot (563k points)

I think I found the page I needed...DBE Errors By...

On the Spreadsheet across the bottom, you will see a tab marked SUGGESTIONS, it will link you directly to the most updated error reports for each state.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jlRaiRtaMEpsPdeuRLS2ids4HAXJyGVCKiQyEMh4NNE/edit#gid=0

Never feel stupid about asking a question! Trust me there is someone else out there thinking about the same thing but are afraid to ask.

This is a Judgement Free Zone, ASK ALL QUESTIONS!

I actually had the same question as I'm looking at the same suggestions sheet and there are no states or links?

I just noticed that also. Maybe Steven can rig something up for us. He is a good guy, I will ask him.  laugh

Steven is unavailable at the moment. So I am building a new tab that will contain all of the States.  Yeah!!!

I have created a spreadsheet that covers all of the United States, each state is separate, and I have included the Team Names that are working on each State.  :) Remember at this time these only update weekly. More on this later. Here is your link>

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jlRaiRtaMEpsPdeuRLS2ids4HAXJyGVCKiQyEMh4NNE/edit#gid=1596460649
