Hi Team Canadian Cleanup Crew!

This will be where you can communicate with each other throughout the 2019 Clean-a-Thon.  Cheer each other one, post any questions you have, etc.

It would be great if everyone would post an answer and maybe introduce yourselves a bit and share what you're intending to work on.

That is a good name Peggy.  I found this one...

I have never heard of this name before and it has many spellings - not sure how I managed to do a New York for the Canada Team but I was intrigued and continued.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/LaClair-146.  Finally went with the name used for his draft Exodique.

HI gang!  I've come across a number of profiles with this error (going back generations of my own to clean up those, taking a break from the generic list) :

ProjectBox Without Project Account

The project type is ACADIAN.

I'm a member of the Canada group and Quebecois group, but not Acadian.  Should I

a) ask to join the Project Acadia to remove the error (these are my distant ancestors, so it's legit, though my focus is on Quebec for the most part)

b) find a Acadian project member and attach them to the profile ?

I'm happy for either solution - look forward to eventually delving into the Acadian roots down the road.

Suggestions?

Whoah! (that's for Exodique LaClair)

@ Greg - if it were me I would make those corrections now,  but also ask to be part of the Acadian Project.  It is my understanding that during the CaT all corrections are good.  I made a few corrections outside of Canada (like that name Exodique)  but it still counts.
Maybe change it to the sticker?
FYI: I have jumped to PEI lists now... not sure who is doing that.

I will go between there and BC.

What is everyone else working on? sections or regions?
I am currently working on BC, 511 Unique names.
Going down the suggestion list for unique names.  Some start in Canada ends up in the States or vice-versa.  So kinda all over the place.  A lot of Ontario and Québec.
I'm working on multiple duplicated lines for BC
I'm working on unique names in PEI

I have signed up for the Nor'easter crew, but maybe that is the wrong one?
by Kathryn Penner G2G6 Mach 6 (64.3k points)
Kathryn the Nor'easter's do Canadian Maritimes and East Coast.

What area are you planning on working on?
I can do PEI and NB.
This is my first clean-up. Does it start on 26th or can I start on the spreadsheet profiles now?

From the G2G post:

The cleaning will start on Friday, April 26, at 8 AM (EDT) and run until Monday, April 29, at 8 AM (EDT).

You can absolutely work on anything you like, but tracking starts on the 26th.

Are you going to switch teams or stay with the Nor'Easters?? laugh

After seeing this

"Ugh. sorry.  I need to switch teams. I didn't realize that there was the "Canada" option.  I want to switch from Nor'easter to Canada clean up please.

Sorry for the mistake."

I'm guessing she jumped ship with no discussion or contact first. If she is switching, she better clean her cabin up good first. I have toothbrushes available.

It's up to her.

Christine,

I had thought that I could do maritime stuff but would prefer to stay with western (BC) area instead.  I noticed that I'm still listed on the Nor'easter team so I will contact them.  I would rather be on this team as my "work" tends to have me wandering throughout Canada.

Clean your cabin first, THEN we toss you overboard. cheeky

I’d like to sign up but am a WikiTree newbie still, at least in experience.

I’ve been going thru my 5200 person GEDCOM and matching up with existing profiles for months but am finally almost done. Not sure what to do when I’ve got thru the last suggested match so if anyone has any help I’d appreciate it. Also have lots of new folk I’m adding and lots of adopted profiles to fix up.

I’m going to probably have to “clean up” all those imports so will probably do those mostly which are Quebec and Montreal and Trois Rivieres mostly with some Acadian and many pioneers I’ll probably ruin when import is done.

Where do I go to study up on how to do the clean-up work for the clean-a-thon and the imports?

Hi Marianne!

Great to have you on board!

Can you please post an answer (not comment) on the Clean-A-Thon G2G post. Eowyn will give you a badge and you will be officially registered!

For the CAT, go to the Team Canada Space Page and scroll down to Error Report/By Region. You can click on Quebec and that will take you to the errors for that province. Have a look around!

Let me know what questions you have! Feel free to message me directly smiley

HI there gang!

I will likely work on the clean up from La Belle Province, as that is where I've been spending most of my time lately, working on my French Canadian maternal line profiles (and slowly working on a FamilySearch index for the Catholic Parish Registers).

Salut!

 - Greg

Hi Aaron,

This is also my first one. I am really looking forward to it! As others have said, my work also tends to be across Canada.

Just wanted to say hi and am ready for the CAT.  I thought I would attack the suggestions that come up with my watchlist profiles, these will be mainly in Ontario or Québec.   I am unfamiliar with suggestions ''931 ProjectBox without Project Account'' so I will stay away from those.

See you on the 26th.

Hi Aaron and team!

I've signed up thinking this was a good way to immerse myself in Wikitree (I'm new to Wikitree but not to genealogy). Not sure that was a wise decision but I will do my best!  I've reviewed the data doctor videos (very helpful). Given how new I am to Wikitree, can someone suggest where I should begin my clean up? Happy to take direction!

Kelly
by Anonymous Stadelbauer G2G3 (3.7k points)
Hi Kelly!

Have you seen the Region Links on the Team Page? Pick any province you're comfortable with and have a look. Feel free to start with something easy, like the 821/822/823 errors, they require very small edits! Feel free to direct message me if you are having issues!!

Good luck!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Christine -- will do. I'll pick Ontari-ari-ari-o.

One thing I'm not so clear on, how do I report back for "score keeping purposes". Not that this is important (I'm a Leafs fan cheeky).

HAHAHA!! Sorry about Boston, LOL.

I sent you a message about tracking.

About 4 1/2 hours to go. Wishing your team all the best in the mad scramble for the next 72 hours. Just remember to have fun while we help make WikiTree better.I know Nor'Easters will be really busy.

Good Morning Everyone,

I have company tonight and tomorrow, but will be able to participate before and after.  I will be working on FAG errors.  (If someone else wants a particular FAG error, let me know and I'll avoid that error number.)

Completed - 579 FindAGrave Missing birth location

Completed - 576 FindAGrave Empty death date

Nice Job Jill!
Thanks Aaron :)

I'm part way through "574 FindAGrave - Imprecise birth date" now and I'll continue with it after my company leaves.

I'll 'see' you all again late tomorrow (Sat.).

I am slogging through

575 FindAGrave - Different birth date  in BC

Have done 2/3 of the page that I'm on.  it is midnight so I'm off to bed now.
I don't see a tracker for this. where should I be looking?

Do you mean a 575 suggestion list for just BC?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Automated:DD_Suggestion_List_CAN_BCO

You can open the tracker for each suggestion using the status button on the far end of each line.

No I meant a master list of progress for our team not our tally in the "great race" of the clean.

and yes I am using the BC list to correct things.

ahhh.... I'm not sure.... the only page I know of is this one that shows users by team (you have to scroll down to our team).

https://wikitree.sdms.si/Challenges/CleanAThon/TeamUser.htm

But there are a lot of other choices at the top.

Thanks! that's what I was looking for!

Hey guys!

If you want to see how we are doing please go to the Tracking Progress page and scroll down. There is a little chart there were you can see how everyone is doing, by team, or member, or error!

Canada Cleanup Crew is currently in 19th place out of 26.

Jill is at the top of our group with over 150 errors corrected. I am sadly at the bottom - night shift is seriously messing with my productivity!!

by Christine Daniels G2G6 Pilot (168k points)

Hi everyone, It's tempting to go for quantity over quality -- I was spending a lot of time per profile with 831 Multiple duplicated lines (and enjoying cleaning those profiles up - so satisfying like polishing up tarnished silver -  but takes maybe 10 - 20 min per) but now have switched to 663 USA too early in marriage location which takes a minute or two per.  This being my first CAT, and guidance as to whether to go for the big numbers or the big impact to future users of that profile?   Kelly

Kelly I did that too - a lot of time on"no dates - open profiles" did those for a while.  Now I am going down the suggestion list for unique names.  and that is taking just a long to search it out.
