Empty profile

When browsing the list of possible duplicates for an individual I wanted to add, I found one profile that had the same name - but no other data at all, not attached to any family member, no source.

Since I could not make a match I indicated it wasn't a match and went on my way. It had been added in 2017 and did have a manager. Later I realized I could have asked the manager if I could take it and use it for my person since it seemed abandoned.

Would that have been the correct thing to do? That would have stopped me working that profile until I had a response. I suppose I could have added mine and later gone back and tried to merge.

Sorry, I did not note the name, I was working on Smith, White, Long, and Brown today and thus had many profiles to check for duplicates (found none).

Often such profiles result from an uploaded GEDCOM file and the PM is glad to offload them. Next time just ask. :)

I agree about asking, but I might have to wait 60 days for an answer. Then I cannot make progress!  Next time I will ask and make note of the profile so i can try a merge later on.
