While that information you have pulled from Family Search appears reasonably accurate I would suggest Pedigree Resource Files should always be treated as research leads and not used as a source without some other corroborating evidence.

As far as your comment about seeing the same name with different years of birth, it was exceedingly common for baby names to be recycled if a child died - often children were named in honour of parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, or benefactors. In some families I have seen the same name given to 4 or more consecutive children.

Thanks for your answer.

Some places I had looked at listed different Stoughton families..

George Stoughton and Agnes Creighton were married 25 Sep 1871.

Ontario Birth Records exist for children of George Stoughton and Agnes Creighton that do not appear on the Census records. Combining the sources I have the children as:

  1. William - 19 Apr 1872 : Birth Registration #008845
  2. James - 12 Jun 1873 : Birth Registration #006398 (d. of Hives 27 Jun 1873. Death Registration #003165)
  3. Sarah - 8 Jul 1874 : Birth Registration #004275
  4. John - 21 Dec 1875 : Birth Registration #009379 (d. bef census 1881)
  5. Agnes - 2 Aug 1877 : Birth Registration #009053 (d. bef census 1881)
  6. George - 22 Nov 1878: Birth Registration #009456 *** Census 1901 gives birth month as Sept, and Census 1911 as Nov 1879.
  7. Jane (or Janet) - 3 (or 23) Apr 1880 : Birth Registration #010216
  8. Margaret - 9 Oct 1880 : Census 1901 ***1905 Marriage Registration #009827 gives an estimated birth of 1882
  9. Alexander - 8 Feb 1883 : Census 1901
  10. Edith - 7 Sep 1884 : Census 1901
  11. Agnes - April 1886 Death Regsitration #006921 (d. 1 May 1886 aged 7 days)
  12. James - 24 Dec 1887 : Birth Registration #013839
  13. Kenneth - 11 Apr 1888 : Statement of Birth #501876
  14. Elsie - 1 Feb 1891 : Census 1901
  15. Agnes - 17 Jun 1893 : Census 1901

The Statement of Birth for Kenneth confirms that Kenneth was the 13th child Agnes gave birth to, that 4 children (James, John, and 2 Agneses) had died before Kenneth's birth, and that none were stillborn. This information was provided by Kenneth in 1953. It was assigned registration #000282

Following the father George through the various census years: Census 1881; Census 1891; Census 1901; Census 1911

Also Agnes Creighton died 2 Nov 1895 at age 45 (not 40) according to Ontario Death Registration #007137

Thought I would add that the marriage of George Stoughton and Agnes Creighton says:

George Stoughton, age 28, residing Mayo Twp., born Bagot Twp., bachelor, farmer, son of William & Agnes Stoughton, married Agnes Creighton, age 21, residing Mayo Twp., born Gratton Twp., spinster, daughter of James & Sarah Creighton, Witnesses: Thomas Bauer of Mayo Twp. & William Creighton of Mayo Twp. married by Banns on 25 Sep 1871 at Twp of Mayo by James Stewart, Minister, C.P.C. (Canadian Presbyterian Church)

Given this information I think it is relatively safe to say George is the son of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stoughton-180 when considering that in the 1851 Census (taken in 1852) for Bagot Twp. there is a George, age 9 (10 on next birthday) and therefore born abt 1843 who is the son of a Wm. and Agnes. The family enumerated 'next door' is very clearly the Nathan D. Stoughton with wife Rachel already given as Stoughton-156 (a sibling of Stoughton-180).

Thanks for all your help,

Coming accross the same name for different years had me wondering if was

another family.

thanks again
