What do you you think about restructuring the Ambassadors Project?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering how to restructure the Ambassadors project and would like feedback from those interested.

See: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ambassadors.

Til now, Ambassadors has encompassed people promoting us on social media, etc.  We've sort of already adopted bloggers and presenters into the project, but not officially.

I'm thinking of restructuring so that Ambassadors is the umbrella for several teams:

  • Social Media - this team would be for folks willing to help promote us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc
  • Bloggers - this, surprisingly, would be for bloggers :)
  • Presenters - this team would be folks who are going out into communities to talk about WikiTree at societies, etc
  • Multimedia - this team would work on producing materials that the other teams (and anyone) can use to spread WikiTree love.

What do you guys think? Does that make sense? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hi Eowyn,

What do you think of adding the Appreciation Team under the Ambassador's umbrella? We have been without a project umbrella since the beginning and are without a leader.

Since Ambassadors spread the WikiTree love and that's what the AT does, it seems like a good fit.

Emma

I think that's an excellent idea!

Sounds like a reasonable plan.  Is being on more than one team a problem?

In looking over the Project page, I noticed that Google+ is still showing up. Since that is going away in about 15 days, I'd suggest it be removed.

Nope! I think a lot of folks would be one more than one team.

Good point about Google + - will remove it when we redo the page.

I like it. I'm mostly cheering Wikitree on Facebook, so I guess that's the category I'd fall under.

Yes it does make sense. I would like to work under bloggers that would be easier for me to do.

This is an excellent idea, I would be with the Social media team to promote WikiTree, if there are teams, would there be mini challenges and a points system??

We can probably come up with some, I'm sure :)

This type of re-organization sounds great!

Why make it complicated? In my self appointed role I have done it all and continue at various times to do so...I dont need another label lol, but if some do, I guess you could.

Hi Gloria,

Thanks for all the incredible work you do to speak the news about WikiTree. I don't personally see the Ambassadors as a status or label, rather a way of organising ourselves to galvanise us into action, cheer one another along, and share ideas and resources.

I went back and looked. Since April 2014, the project has adde 64 people. What benefits would come from setting up different teams within such a small group?

Personally, I mention Wikitree often on my personal web page.

We are also quickly coming into the Celtic Faire/Festival season here in the Rocky Mountains, and I talk about Wikitree often while working my Clan's tent at numerous events. I don't see a team for the Festival workers, however, so don't forget a team for us!

Mainly, because we don't intend for it to stay this small and it will be nice to have teams structures in place as it grows.

I think this is a fantastic idea, Eowyn, and I love your team suggestions. I would love to be on the Social Media and Blogging Teams, please (and join the Ambassadors as for some strange reason I haven't yet done this!)

I've seen how teams coming together to work on specific goals has really increased activity on WikiTree and I'm excited this is happening here. Let me know how I can help in any way.

Go Wikitree!

Whatever you decide is fine by me. I will continue to blog, share on FB and give presentations to groups.

I know that having a WikiTree Day at the local library is always a good thing. Sign them up and give them a quick class.

Hi, I live in South Australia and give the occasional talk on Wikitree to local genealogy groups. I like the idea of having a presenters group because I would like to be able to share ideas for presentations without reinventing the wheel each time.

Thanks.
