Shared Photo: Grandma and I feeding the pigeons

+10 votes

This is one of my favourite photographs, of my maternal grandma and myself.  The occasion was my 10th birthday, and we were visiting my mother in London, one of the places we visited that day was Trafalgar Square, where we fed the pigeons, and a pigeon actually landed and perched on Grandma's head.  We also went to a Lyons Corner Shop restaurant for my birthday tea, where our Italian waiter kept throwing sugar lumps at my Owl balloon that was perched on the table.

I wanted to share this family photo of Mona Winstanley with the community. Location: Trafalgar Square, London. Date: 13 Aug 1950.

This is a wonderful picture! This is really classic.

This Photo was taken one day after I was born. That caught my eye. It was a couple of days before the birth of Princess Anne, who is three days younger than myself (August 15, 1950).
The first thing I thought of was "tuppence a bag".  :)

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments.  This morning I turned on the TV and saw the opening scene of the film "A Kid For Two Farthings" it was a crowded Trafalgar Square, a blast from the past, and I almost expected to see my 10 year old self there, but the film was made five years after the photo was taken, in 1955, about a little boy who wanted to replace his dead pet chicken with a unicorn.

Well I woke up to no hot water, so no wash for me this morning, I put on work clothes and I shall go out and play in the dirt..!  I have an Azalea that has outgrown its pot and needs to be transplanted to the garden.  I am almost 79, so I can do what I please now.  devil

Fantastic photo Jacqueline, you look positively ecstatic.  And look two pigeons on your arm and three on your grandma.  I can see why this one would be a favorite.  What a keepsake.  Thank you for sharing.
