Hi, Tim

I think we have about 6 members so far.  Do we have a plan as to what suggestions we want to work on?  Also, are we going to create any sort of art-work for the team?
by Dave Dardinger G2G6 Pilot (438k points)
As of about noon (Eastern time) yesterday (3/23) there are 6 members.

I hadn't thought of a plan as to what to work on. In past clean-a-thons, the teams I have been a part of, it has always been work on something off of the "suggestions" list that is active for the weekend. Nothing of a work on a specific items(s). There are ways to pull the list for specific locations, I can inquire as to if this will be done automatically for us or if it is something that I can request. Would that be something that would be desired?

Art work...my art work skills have depleted over the years and I am lacking decent photo editing software. If this is something you have the ability to do, feel free to make something up.
There are breakdowns by state. I will add the links to the team free-space page.
So when does the event start? Is it 8 this morning, or 8 tonight, or some other time? And do we have a kick-off event?

Last year I worked on Illinois as I am most familiar with that area - but there are so many areas that need cleaning the last time I looked that there is room for everyone.

I caught an answer/reply argument in the registration thread and wanted to comment here because our team name got brought up in it...

As team captain I will not beg, plead, or "steal" team members. I haven't even tried to solicit any.

Why? Because there is no "winning", other than profiles improving, and that is a win for everyone! There's no cash prize, trophy, etc. At the end we all get the same thing...an improved WikiTree.

I'm going to captain this team the same way whether there is only me or if there are 100s of team members. We all have lives outside of this. Every contribution is welcome. Every profile improved is a plus. If you only have a short period of time available, do what you can. (Even one improvement is enough) Or if you have lots of available time, get a bunch of them.

The whole point of these challenges (Clean-A-Thon, Source-A-Thon, etc) is to improve the site. Our goal should be quality improvements, not quantity. If the quantity comes with the quality, great!

Sorry for the little rant. I could go on but it will just turn into rambling and make me look silly.

Tim, I agree with you 100%. I go to church on Sunday, and I sleep. I am not going to be on here 48 hours over the weekend just to win. I like to leave a profile nice when I leave my name attached.

Thank you for being the same way!
Tim, that makes it nice, really. I can spend a little time fixing source-challenged profiles without feeling like I'm letting down my team by not racing through.

Checking in. I will focus primarily on Michigan, but I'm sure I'll do a few for most of the other Great Lakes states too.

You are more than welcome to join us Terri.  When you register for the Clean-A-Thon, be sure to mention that you wish to be on the Great Lakes Team.
I'm all registered.  Where is the team free space page. Could I work in Ohio, please?

Terri

Welcome!

There is a link to the free space page at the top of this page.

You are more than welcome to work on Ohio.
I worked this weekend and did taxes but I got a few suggestions in. I had fun and learned a lot. Hopefully I helped Wikitree some too.

The weather for next weekend looks great so far.  That means I'll probably be limited to the evening hours to clean.  Too many outdoor projects to tackle still because of too much rain this spring. Looking forward to getting done what I can.

Hi, I'd like to be on your team. I will work on my own profiles but if you have suggestions on other easy fixes I would be happy to help. I'm traveling this weekend so I have a lot of time sitting in airports but it will be difficult to get updates that require brain power and organization.

I have found you!  Interests are Ohio and Pennsylvania.  I did register for the clean-a-thon, but didn’t realize that I wasn’t logged in.  I am the “Nancy” who registered a few minutes ago.  I can reregister; so sorry to cause confusion.

About 4 1/2 hours to go. Wishing your team all the best in the mad scramble for the next 72 hours. Just remember to have fun while we help make WikiTree better.I know Nor'Easters will be really busy.

Tim, I am sorry. I worked until 2 a.m. on the Source-A-Thon, but obviously was hitting the wrong button. I hit the correct Data Doctors Challenge, but did not go to the bottom of the page and click on the "status" button before I put my comment in.

Before I went to bed, I had almost 300 points for our  team. This morning I thought I would try clicking on the correct button and checked my score. I only had 1 point.

If I check my score on that same page it shows (right now) 300, but if I click on the top under Data Doctors Challenge it shows 1.  Quite a difference.

I am so sorry I let the team down.

Cheryl...you didn't let anyone down! You made a huge amount of updates. That is the reward.

Personally, I don't care about accolades, winning, or any of that stuff when it comes to the "...-A-Thons". All of these are done to improve the site. I'd much rather we spend the time making quality and needed corrections/updates than racking up huge numbers.  It's the quality of the information on this site that makes it, in my opinion, one of the best (if not the best) genealogy sites.

Any and all improvements you have made are appreciated.  THANK YOU!
Thanks Tim - I feel better.  I agree with you. While it looks like I did "easy" clean-ups, I always add at least one source to every profile that I work on. (or try to).

I am glad we have a captain that feels the way you to, and not one that is yelling for more points.

Hey Great Lakes Team, I'm fading fast on Sunday night. But carry on, best wishes to you all.  I can't see how we're doing because the Tracker is stuck, but as Tim says, the big gain is a cleaner tree for us all.
by Robin Rainford G2G6 Mach 1 (15.1k points)
Thanks Robin - have a good night sleep!

Well, another Clean-a-thon is past and we put a serious hurting on the suggestions. Nor'Easters would like to thank one and all for your participation. Good job all around.
