My Brickwall is my 2x great grandfather Henry George Butcher b abt 1825

My great grandfather Henry George Butcher (1852 -1928) married Mary Martha Bowman in Bungadore, New South Wales, Australia. On their marriage certificate, it states that his parents names are Henry George Butcher and Kesiah (surname unknown). My great grandfather was born in Kent, UK but I have hit a brickwall with this generation.. I would love to connect with anyone who shares these ancestors. Cheers Trish

Could he have been George Henry rather than Henry George ? Here's the only birth record I could find for Kent between 1850 and 1854:

BUTCHER, GEORGE  HENRY   ; Mother's maiden surname: LEACH  ;

GRO Reference: 1853  Dec Quarter in BROMLEY  Volume 02A  Page 195

I couldn't find a Leach/Butcher marriage, but there is a Keziah Leach in the Dartford workhouse in 1851. Born Abt.1834.

I found the same person searching on Keziah but I don't think it's correct. There is a Butcher/Leach marriage in Bromley1852 but its Alphonse Butcher and Mace Leach.

Marriages Sep 1852
BUTCHER     Alphonse     Bromley     2a    302
LEACH     Mace           Bromley     2a    302

That's probably the parents of the Bromley "George Henry" then. Keziah might not have married a Butcher, though. Hence the brick wall. You'd probably need to see the birth certificate in order to decide.
Alphonse and Mace do have a son, George,  of the right age in the 1861 census, so that rules out that 1853 Bromley birth, as you suggested.
Hi Joe

Thank you for looking into this and for your comments.. i believe his name is definitely Henry George.. i have his marriage and death certificates which both state his name  and i am pretty sure i have the right person as the certificates have all the right connections to his wife and children etc.... BUT..this is where i have differing information also.. on his marriage cert it states he was 47yrs old in 1899 which makes his birth year 1852 born in Kent, UK, however on his death cert it states that he was 81yrs in 1928 which makes his birth yr about 1847! I have found a birth record for a Henry Butcher born in 1847 in Woolwich which was apparently historically in the area of Kent.. so this sort of matches..parents are listed as Henry and Ellen.. (not Keziah as listed on the marriage cert)! every time i look in this family.. i just keep getting more and more road blocks! arrghh! cheers Trish

Could there be a mistake in Henry's birth year? According to the profile he didn't marry until he was 47, then to a 27 year old, but they didn't have a child until 10 years later!? That's a highly unusual scenario.

I did find a Henry George Butcher baptised in 1833 in Kent who could be Henry's father.

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch ( : 11 February 2018, Henry George Butcher, ); citing I-3 1833, index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 1,785,908

Hi Matthew

Thank you for looking into this.. I have thought the same thing about the ages and i cant explain it either.. i am currently searching the gaol records.. maybe he was in jail for a few years.. though.. i am not having much luck there either!! I have found a census record for a Henry George Butcher b 1847 in Kent.. which seems to match the information indicated on his death cert (states he was 81 yr when he died in 1928).. this is such a mystery.. but thank you for your help!
