Are you interested in improving the profiles of Mayflower passengers and their families?

The Mayflower Project currently covers the passengers of the Mayflower, their wives, and their descendants for two generations or born before 1700, which ever is more inclusive. Please note that all Mayflower passengers and most of their family members already have profiles on WikiTree and should not be duplicated. Can’t find yours? Please ask.

Anyone who has signed the Honor Code and has the Pre-1700 badge is invited to join the project.

To Join - Follow these Directions:

  1. Read the Project page.
  2. Ask yourself: Do I actively want to participate in the project and contribute to the  Mayflower Project goals? See Project FAQ
  3. Add mayflower to your Followed Tags on your profile.
  4. Post an answer (not a comment) below, introducing yourself, and sharing why you are interested in the Mayflower Project and who your ancestor is (if you have one). Add yourself to the participants list

If you simply want to acknowledge that you are the descendant of a Mayflower passenger and honor that passenger, Mayflower has a Sticker you can add to your profile.

I'm Elizabeth and a descendant of Isaac and Mary Allerton and possibly Elizabeth Howland.  I'm currently working on verifying through primary sources ancestral connections to PGM and Mayflower immigrants.  I have been doing genealogical research on my family since the 1990's.
Hello Elizabeth, you just posted a comment. Please go back to the top and post an answer instead. Thank you
I have recently received my Mayflower certificate as a descendant of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley (and her parents).  I also recently discovered that my great grandmother is a descendant of Bradford and possibly a Brewster connection.  I would like to learn more about these connections.
I would also like to add the Harding line to the Howlands.
Maxine Bubar Crouch

Congratulations on chasing down your ancestor and proving the connection. You should add mayflower to your followed G2G tags.

I am cousins with Richard More Sr and Agnes Cooper.  I would like to join the project.
Michelle and Kathleen. It is necessary that you post an answer, not a comment.

MIchelle, you need to pre-1700 certify

Kathleen:

You said: "I’m having the same problem I’m confused also"
What problem? If you can't figure out how to answer: go back to the top of the page. At the end of the Question. a line that says:

"edit close hide answer comment"

click the link that says answer to post an answer

A comment earlier questioned a relationship. Specifically, the question was if you are a direct descendant of a Mayflower passenger and thus his ancestral line, are you also related to the spouses line. The answer in my opinion is yes. Just as you are related to both of your grandparents, those relationships continue as long as it's a direct line and not a collateral line.

As a professional researcher as well as the State Registrar for the Massachusetts CAR, I wanted to prove at least one line for the experience in order to assist others who had interest.  John Howland was my first target for entry into the GSMD. However, the research was too sketchy as 3 generation lived in upstate New York on the early- to mid-19th century. Vital and any other type of records are scarce at best.

Finally, I was admitted as a descendant of William Brewster along with my daughter. Soon we'll be applying to admit my grandchildren. There are a few others that I can research including Edward Fuller, Samuel Fuller and if I can ever prove John Howland, the Tilley line.

Hi Dave,

If you're wanting to join the Mayflower Project, there is a new thread started here: Joining the Mayflower Project

Be sure to *answer* on that page, not comment like you've done here so that we see your posting. There are a few other requirements listed on that post, too, so be sure to read up a bit on the Project.

hi is there any pike relation to the mayflower?
by Diann George G2G Crew (660 points)
There don't seem to be any Pikes in the first three generations of Mayflower (covered by the Project). That doesn't mean you aren't related, it just means that your relationship (if any) is through female lines after grandchildren of passengers.
There are Pike descendants who are Mayflower descendants. Leonard Pike married Ann Snow (MF:6:274-5). One of my lines (GSMD 70468s) is through Jonathan Whorf and Hanna Pike b. 1806 in Truro.
Yes, MF:6:274-5

My name is Chris im a firefighter and father of 3 living in Florida.  I’m currently doing research trying to verify one of my lines tieing into William Brewster’s.  I have verified lines to the Hopkins, and the Allerton families. I grew up in New England and the early history of our countries founding was  integral part of my childhood.  As an adult I’ve come to find links to many important events in our history including the Mayflower.  I look forward to being a part of this project and being able to contribute to this wonderful community tree.

I have the pink book (fifth generation) for his son Jonathan, if that helps.
There is now a Silver Book for Jonathan (MF 24, pt. 2) and a brand new MF 24, pt. 3 that covers the descendants of Love, Patience, and Fear Brewster. With the exception of George Soule, MFIP volumes are no longer used or accepted by GSMD. The George Soule Silver Book (volume 3) is no longer used.

Hi, I am Dave Dardinger. I recently decided to see what cousins I had which were Mayflower passengers.  Turns out I have 6 of them, but I also find I'm a direct descent of the Hopkins family. Constance Hopkins is my 9ggrandmother.  So I'll go put the Mayflower tag on my list and see if I can find any way to get the 5 links which have Unknown Confidence to become confident.

Great Dave - go forth and source, and may the source be with you
Hey Dave!  My Snow married Constance Hopkins.  Are  we cousins?

13 great grandparents and 9 aunts and uncles identified (tentatively). Lineage to John Alden and Priscilla Mullins (and her parents) recently documented with the GSMD. Currently working the line to Samuel (son) and Edward Fuller, 10th and 11th great grandfathers, respectively.

I'd like to be a part of the Mayflower Project. I am currently an Assistant Historian for the Nevada Society of Mayflower Descendants. Richard L Dalton, Member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants GSM # 88,879 State Society Nevada # 477 descendant of John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, John Tilley, Elizabeth Hurst, Degory Priest and George Soule.

Excellent and thank you for joining the project. And welcome to a very distant cousin.
Thank you Anne B.

I look forward to the journey and making more connections with cousins and our friends. Such a small world, one of my co-workers and I both descend from passengers on the Mary & John in 1630 similar to the Mayflower in that 400 years later descendants meet each other and find our ancestors knew each other, worshipped together. But the best gift so far was two weeks ago researching for a dear friend I've known for more than 40 years to discover that we are distant cousins as we both descend from Mayflower passenger George Soule, and several other couples in early Massachusetts.
Hello, cousin! I just reached that point in my tree and have found I'm also a direct descendant of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilly (and of Richard Warren) on the paternal side. I haven't applied to the GSMD (and probably won't bother -- I'm adopted, so the only proof of my connection to my birthfather is DNA) but it's nice to know, and to meet distant relations.

May I also join this project?

I would like to join this project.  I have proven descent from Elder William Brewster through GSMD.  I have researched descent from a number of other pilgrims but have not submitted to GSMD.
by Marsha Craig G2G6 (9.9k points)
Welcome to the Mayflower Project
Thank you Anne B.
You should definitely submit your application to the Mayflower Society in the State where you live or the Society that is nearest to you. They will prepare your application based on the evidence you submit and will vet the application for you. If you need more documentation, they will let you know. The application will be forwarded to GSMD only when the application is solid. Generations 6 through 9 are the toughest for most people. The one thing to consider is: have you clearly established that each child in the tree is related to their parents?
I have completed documentation on several other lines...Will submit someday...it's expensive now that I'm retired and on fixed income!

I'm new to WT, but not genealogy.  My husband is a descendant of Isaac Allerton and his daughter Remember.  I'm not sure I have time right now to join the project, but I am interested in joining eventually.  I would love to connect to other descendants of Allerton.
by Lynnette Hettrick G2G6 Mach 5 (56.1k points)
Hi Lynette, Whenever you're ready to join the project, let me know. You have Mayflower and Allerton in your G2G tags so you will know if anything concerning either is happening here in the forum.

I am descended from Giles, Stephen and Constance Hopkins, Edward Doty, John Howland, Elizabeth, John, and Joan (Hurst) Tilley, William and Mary Brewster, and Francis Cooke. Being able to fill in more details on my own family tree while at the same time putting in some volunteer work for the project seems like a no-brainer. I've only been a WikiTree member for one week and (though not new to genealogy) am still in learning mode here. So I'm happy to get assigned to any grunt work that needs to be done--I am retired and have time to dig in.
by Jen Hutton G2G6 Mach 7 (77.8k points)
Hi welcome to Mayflower Project. I will have some more "grunt work" available soon.

Make sure you add mayflower to your G2G tags (the green things on the top right side of your profile. You currently have two hatton and yelverton.

William Bradford was my fifth cousin, ten times removed. I am related to him to my Norcross and Springer lines. My side of the family is confirmed. It won't take much to confirm William Bradford's side of the family.

My name is Jerry and I have been on WikiTree since 2016. I've recently connected the dots back to Constance Hopkins. Hopkins-5, and Nicholas Snow, Snow-4, who are my 8th Great Grand parents.. Snow was my Grandmothers Maiden Name. I had some help from Chet Snow, who confirmed my research.  So, yes I would like to join the Mayflower project.

Have two identified Pilgrim Uncle's on the Mayflower-Edward Fuller and Samuel Full. However, many of my other ancestor's lines have not been identified but by common last names with other Pilgrims-Reynolds, Gardiner, Thompson, Brewster, Brown. I have a lot of cousin detective work to do!

I have two known ancestor passengers who are 10th Great-Grand Uncles: Edward Fuller and Samuel Fuller. But, I have many more questions with aunt/uncle relationships and last names in common with other passengers, but no lineage link! Whew, there is a lot of work to be done during this period.

Hello my name is Candice Hines. My profile is Cross-4010. I am a teacher in Maryland. My Grandmother started our genealogy research about 10 years ago and I have been trying to fill in the blanks since then. She was able to find three well documented mayflower ancesters Stephen Hopkins, Francis Cooke and Mary Allerton. We have discovered that there may be more, still working on it. I would love to be able to find out more about the first two generations of the mayflower. I started working on my mothers side and she might have a connection as well. Thank you
