Power BI to analyze data and differences

Dear Community :),

Here is some thoughts, but surely they might be helpful to others as it helps quickly do things/find errors /compare data, etc!

I used Power BI to do an analysis of my WikiTree and MyHeritage data. My aim was to compare data differences in both platforms to move all changes to wikitree.

And i was surprised how easy that was using PowerBi.

Just downloaded 2 gedcom files - from each system. Since microsoft doesnt have any connector to read a gedcom format - i simply read them as text.

Basically  - i made around 10-15 steps to get flat table showing differences between those two files - and unfiltered technical fields.

Immediately few dissapointments from myheritage i noticed - it doesnt store middle name - so basically i unfiltered it (as it was looking like it was removed from all people since copiing to myheritage), and also MH doesnt keep reference WWW text (containing Wikitree, so i really expected to rely on it :).

Basically result was clear table showing differences. So i maually entered them to Wikitree. It took much more time.

So if anyone knows can make some manuals etc.

But here is question. Is any way to read API json from wikitree and myheritage? If so i could be able to prepare simple free reporting tool to display differences across systems easily!!!

Hi Fedir,

I'm having the same problems like you have on connecting Power BI to Wikitree, so I need to go with the second best solution of comparing 2 Gedcom files. Or do you already have another solution. I saw on the Power BI community that nobody has come up with a sollution on your question there.
Ho yes. It's true.

No answers. I was additionally contacting data guy from wikitree but he seems to be not interested.

But I continue working on that tool for myself. Some good progress done already.

So far I successfully loaded wikitree and myheritage gedcoms and run report to compare per individuals.

If you interested and willing to help - I can share this tool.

Feel free to contact directly.

Hi Fedir,

I will contact you directly, but I'm posting this answer here on the G2G also, because I know for sure that more people will be interested in comparing their own file with all the details they've put on Wikitree. (It's so hard to manualy synchronize databases.

However, I'm not comparing my wikitree data with myheritage, but with my own offline database program Aldfaer. Although it doesn't matter which tool you use for Power BI.

I now converted both Gedcom's to txt files and loaded them into Power BI. Now I need to create the comparising reports in Power BI, so I would be able to see the differences per individual in both files.

Kind regards from the Netherlands,

Sure.

We can look together to make single approach. Since gedcom is used there is no difference which app to use.
