Why did the Piccard name change to Baumann?

Piccard was added on to the Kassel-hessen Baumanns from Alsace to indicate they were with Jerome Bonapart- King of Westphalia

They came as merchants  from Alsace fFrance to Kassel (Cassel) germany and added Piccard or Picard to the name to indicate they were french and some dropped either name.
