I have ran across a possible obit/burial permit for my grt grandmother and I cannot see the article. would someone be kind enough to send me a clipping so I can verify it's the correct person?  St. Louis Post-Dispatch 1961 (nee Sheppard) 2/22 p2B burial permit 2/25 p 8A.

If you don't get a copy from a member, I have a suggestion.  If there is a
library in the area where the obituary was published, call and ask if they have a genealogy room.  Someone there might have saved the obituary in a family file form and could send you a copy.  You may have to contribute
a small fee or later send them a donation for their coffee fund.  This works with our local library and the volunteers in the Heritage room.  Good luck.

Lisa, the names in the obituary do not match up to the ones you have in her profile. This Gertrude Mitchell, who died February 22, 1961 is the

"...beloved wife of Earl Mitchell, dear mother of Myron Mitchell, dear sister of Oscar and Luther Shepperd, and the late Lillian Teckas..."

Should you be looking for a Mitchell? It looks like, from her profile, that the last name  of your ancestor at the time of her death was Tate.

I will try to send you the clipping. I am new to

Hi Lisa (and Nelda),

I don't have online access to any of these newspapers but I believe that this may be the death record for your great grandmother. If so, this record shows that she died in Vernon County, MO and was buried in Kansas City, KS. So I doubt that there would be a burial permit for her in a St Louis, MO newspaper.

I was able to do a search on using this search criteria: and found 3 results. Based on the info in her profile and the very small snippet of text that I can see on ("Mrs C C Tate ... Margaret G Tate, 84"), I believe that one (or both) of the first 2 newspaper pages in the search results has the correct obituary for your great grandmother:

  • Springfield Leader and Press, Springfield, Missouri, Tuesday, February 14, 1961 - Page 13
  • The Springfield News-Leader, Springfield, Missouri, Tuesday, February 14, 1961 - Page 15

Maybe Nelda (or someone else) has access to those pages and can provide a clipping.

The death record is from Missouri Death Certificates, 1910 - 1968.

Rick, thanks, I was able to find that one, too, and it looks more likely to be the correct one Lisa needs. When I get an email addy from Lisa, I will send it to her.

This clipping is the first two results (appears to be the same obituary in both results):

Thank you so much! I was trying to make sure it was for the correct person, which your correct it isn't. Thank you again!!
