Does anyone have access to Silver Book: Volume 8 (Degory Priest)?

I’m looking for confirmation of a family line HOPEFULLY in volume 8 of the Mayflower Silver books. The closest ACTUAL book to my area is 1,000 miles away....

The line I’m tracing is Degory>Sarah Priest Coombs>Francis Coombs>Mercy Coombs Barrows>Ebenezer Barrows>John Barrows>>>.

If there are any references to this line, AND/OR any other pertinent information, can someone please let me know?

I’m having a hard time at John Barrows because THERE WERE 2 at the same place and same time. I’m related to ONE...but which.

This may be a problem for DNA to solve?

THANK U for any help you can give!

Hi Kristi, here is your line:

Degory Priest b. England ca. 1579,  Pg 2

Sarah b. Leyden Holland ca. 1615,   Pg 4

    Francis b. Plymouth ca. 1635,   Pg 13

      Mercy b. Middleboro 3 Jan 1674/5     Pg 43

        Ebenezer b. Middleboro 27 Jul 1702   Pg 118

           John b. Middleboro  13 Oct 1743    Pg 118

The book only lists one John Barrows. Also your Morton line is solid.

On Nov. 7 1771 Ebenezer deeded half his land to son Ebenezer and half to son John. Land records may prove your connection. DNA won't do any good because we do not have DNA from Ebenezer or his son John. If you have primary documentation up to John Barrows and Sarah Morton, you should be fine.

Thank you so much FOR ALL OF THAT!!

As for the solidarity of the line, John is where I’m having trouble. I need to prove WHICH John (there were 2 at the time) is my actual ancestor.

I have proof up through Abner Barrows, who is SAID to be the son of John Barrows and Jemima Johnson, which is why I’m searching to see if Sarah Possibly died and he remarried?

Whole this is a rats nest, honestly. I have to take great notes, then rest for several months to refresh , and then dive back in each time. Frustrating.

Just need to connect the CORRECT John to Abner. I don’t like mistakes.
What is your date and source for Abner Barrows???
Well Kristi, with all being said, it is very possible that your Abner is the son of John and Jemima (Johnson) Barrows and this John could very well be the one in MF:8:118. I believe they were married in 1766. Try working backwards and see if you can connect that way.

Thank you!

Does it show the previous family line as I have written it?

Does it show that John was married to anyone else? Or a death date or remarriage for Sarah Morton?

I have Ebenezer, wife Sarah, Capt John (1743-1782) all buried together at Thompson Hill cemetery.

The SAR website shows TWO John Barrows (living at same time and dying within short time of each other) during the Rev War. One has spouse of Sarah, other blank. Both are “unclaimed”. I’m related to ONE of them...from what I gather...I’m just trying to sort out which one?

I really think these 2 John’s have been mixed up and I’m trying to sort out which John belongs to which parent: one is Ebenezer’s son and one is George’s son.

Is there ANY further info in the book that might help sort this out?

Thank you for even answering the first time!! :)
"...Sarah Morton 2nd."

On 7 November 1771 Ebenezer deeded half of his homestead, dwelling house etc. to his son Ebenezer and half to son John Barrows.  On 16 March 1774 John Barrows of Middleborough conveyed lands he had received from his father to his brother Ebenezer Barrows Jr.

No probate records for Ebenezer and Sarah (Pratt) Barrows were found.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Susan, could you elaborate on your reference MF:8::2:165 ???  There is no such Silver Book.

Kristi what do you have for Sarah Morton's birth and parents???
by
i found a book (Descendants of Levi Wood 1755-1833, published ca 1913?) that lists Sarah Morton as the daughter of George and Juliana (Carpenter)Morton. SO...this is actually speaking of George Bonum’s wife, Sarah Morton (Senior! Ha), and NOT the junior Sarah Morton.

The Junior Sarah shows “2nd” in the marriage record: does that not denote that it was actually a REMARRIAGE (2nd marriage) for her at the time she married John in November 1769? Would that mean that her MAIDEN NAME was Morton? Or does it mean that her first husband’s name was Morton, and we don’t actually know her maiden name? (I’m not familiar with how they recorded remarriages then.) I found a marriage for Ebenezer Morton and Sarah Cobb, 1753, but I fear that is too old?

Kristi, go to www.archive.org and look for 'George Morton of Plymouth' by John K Allen. Sarah is on page 16.

O.K., I am seeing a major problem here. The John Barrows you are hoping to connect to was b. 10 years after Sarah Morton. Pretty much blows that out of the water!

What is Abner Barrows information? B. date, place and parentage?
by

Agree!!! Sarah is not likely the wife of the John I’m researching! This whole thing is very confusing.

THANK YOU FOR THE ARCHIVE LINK! That helped to clear up Sarah...I will have plenty of correct info to attach her to the correct John when I get there.

ABNER BARROWS is traced UP through my line: he is listed as having parents John Barrows and Jemima Johnson. Problem is that HIS grandfather (so John’s father) is listed as “George Barrows” in the history books.

And then, when you look at the SAR patriot website, you can see that there were 2 John’s in history at the same time, same place, same war: https://sarpatriots.sar.org/patriot/search_results

My brain hurts.

Can you see where I might have gone wrong here? Or what I can do to rectify the 2 John’s into their correct families?

Thank you for all of your help!

Sorry I just realized you also asked for more info on Abner: he’s

Barrows-730 on WikiTree. Parents listed as John Barrows and Jemima Johnson (citations for marriage on Taunton Marriages page 41, and listed in John’s page {Barrows-747}, which is now all messed up).

Born 1743 Colerain, Mass 8/1/1770. Moved with parents to New York, married Lucy Call 1793, fathered 8 children, died 1849 NY.

Per SAR Patriot website research: I’m thinking that the John Barrows listed married to Sarah (P-109834) and buried in Lakeville (which is the Thompson Hill Cemetery) next to his parents is NOT my ancestor.

I’m thinking it’s the John Barrows listed as 109835, no wife (which could work as Jemima), born 1743, is my ancestor! Does that strike a cord with anyone???

Now to figure out how BEST to disentangle mess / create new John / detach from incorrect people. Oh boy....

I have that Silver book and would happy to help you. Degory Priest married Sarah Allerton (Vincent) who was the widow of John Vincent. They were married on Nov. 4, 1611, in Leyden Holland. Sarah Allerton was the sister of Isaac Allerton of the Mayflower. Children of Francis Coombs and wife Deborah Morton were Deborah Coombs (b. middle of May 1673) and Mercy Coombs (b. 3 Jan. 1674/5) who married Samuel Barrows (b. 1672 in Plymouth - died at Middleboro 30 December 1755). Sarah Pratt (18 Aug. 1705) married Ebenezer Barrows. Ebenezer Barrows was the son of Samuel and Mercy (Coombs) Barrows. John Barrows was the son of Ebenezer and Sarah (Pratt) Barrows born at Middleboro 13 Oct. 1743, married 16 Nov. 1769 to Sarah Morton. What else do you need?
